Im all for the improvement of the sydneyafl but speaking from DIRECT EXPIERENCE.This system cripples clubs, how can balmains first grade play at henson(i think) ressies at camden 18s in the shire. It spreads resources to thin how is a under18 supposed to watch a learn from upper grades if they arent at the same venue. Its this system that hurt balmain this year all grades where isolated from each other no support from other grades gameday from the hill prior, during and after the game.As in other states VFL the whole club goes down based upon there first grades results, all grades MUST play on the same day at the same ground to keep it fair. You cant send 70players all over sydney in different directions different days its a joke.

Agree with you Big Show 100%. I also agree with Taras point regarding using the lower leaugues as a feeder comp. Surely it is not too hard to have the Premier League set up with very club having a Seniors Reserves and Under 18. Below that we could have exactly the same format set up with another 10 clubs. Then we can start to fill out the other divisions with clubs that only have one side or have a 4th or 5th side?

Problem is Duck that many prem div clubs arnt prepared to work with lower div clubs. There are a lot of kids who sit idle at prem div 18's not gettting a game but they arnt given day clearance or even pointed in the direction of a club that will give them a game. It was always take take take and other than a few clubs I dont see it changing much in the short term.

Dont use the VFL as an example because there are clubs there that dont have ressies and this exact problem occurs - Oh bugger that sort of shoots you argument down doesnt it - how can arguably the best competition outside of the AFL allow this to happen?

tara i played in the eastern football league for doncaster two years ago in division 2 and they had the relegation system there and it was based on first grades results.Has and lower division club ever formally approched a premier division club to forge a alliance or a football pathway program at balmain we have drummoyne power, glebe greyhounds north ryde dockers. Also you cant tell me that balmain having manly or uts as there 1st division club is a great idea.

Bigshow I grew up in Templestowe so I know the league you refer to pretty well and yes there have been approches.

I can tell you now if a prem club spoke with us and were prepared to put something serious to the table that would be of benefit to both clubs we would listen and act accordingly.

We were happy to do so this year with one club but it was clear that they wernt interested.

I will always direct a kid in the direction of a premier div club if they are up to it and that is what they want but I will happily keep them if they want to help us rebuild our club and they enjoy their football with us.

we cant all be premier division clubs and better players should be pushed up into the top sides and post premier division players cant drop back to lower clubs and help out future players,

Was the dragons back the but yes I believe its the dockers now.

I went to school with the Fitzsimmons so Im showing my age.

I only played school footy though - you had to play with your school first where I went then you might have gotten permission to play at club level if you were lucky.

its just my opinion but i believe that premier league teams shouldnt have fourth/fifth div teams but allign with a lower div clubs and filter players back unsw/uts lower grades to the randwick saints give them a massive boast and a couple to balmain wouldnt hurt.

There used to be abit of passion between my school Marcellin and Assumption which Id imagine is still there - especially when you had guys like SOS and Curran playing.

Has anyone seen the news on Penno and MACUNI's web pages they have just formed this exact allaince, i think this will be the first step towards making 2 clubs become stronger within their respective div's and make better footballers from 18's thru to seniors. We all should watch to see how this goes and emulate it if this does work out to become what should be 2 great clubs. Premier League clubs are starting to listen to lower divsion clubs and the Uni clubs have some real offer about them.

Is this alliance fixed to the U18's only alwaysnextyear and is reviewed yearly to see if it continues (ie what if MacUni get an opportunity to move to PL)?
