Will be interesting to see if it translates to results and also if it is value for money given the (alleged) sums being paid. From the Sydney AFL site it seems the Tiges have lost a few players so whilst Saddo, Schmidts and Sunny can only improve the side I'd be surprised to see them push for the finals.
Balmain land another one....

Whilst I know that there are a lot of guys that make up a footy club, is Sydney AFL that strong that a team adding 4 guys with AFL experience to their list is still a mile off being a competitive side?I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

My mate who is at Balmain and involved in board, said that a lot of the younger players are really stepping up too. He also alluded to another gun joining the club.
End of the day, Balmain's top 8 or 9 players would be in any clubs top 10 or 11. No other team could genuinely say that. Sure their bottom 5 or 6 may not be regular 1st graders in an East Coast Eagles team, but to say you'd be suprised if they made the finals??
What will an opposition coach do in the mid-field?? Tag Schmidt? no player in Syd woudl be smart enough to do that. If they try, great, then you have his brother and Fosdike (my mate said he will play, just not every game) doing what they want. Then you have the best CHF in the comp who played in the VFL grand final last year. Saddington will kill it!! They will kick to him or the new FF (name elludes me) who again is a gun too....
Ball turns over and Balmain have Janis Blums at CHB and two new A Graders from Melb...oh and Sundquist!
I'm not saying they will win the flag, not at all....but to say they won't make the top 5 (I think its top 5) or more to the point, to say you'll be surprised if they do????
Some of you need to get off the "bagging Balmain" bandwagopn, put whatever baggage you have, behind you and actualy think about it.Comment

48 Hour....
You are right there on most parts, with $$$ spent and team they are buying there should definately make the finals, it is clearly obvious to anyone there with the list they are buying they should be up there.
They are clearly a team with a new found fortune and using it well to buy up, any club who comes into that money would.
Who could blame a ex afl star seeking some extra cash to not try get some more, there would be no way any of those guys would of signed up to play in the SFL unless serious coin was offered which is clearly is now started to be thrown around, those guys wouldnt play for nothing or a small amount.
Balmain is my tip for definate finals, if not up there with being one a few teams for early fav's for the flag.:Comment

Now im no balmain Danny Glover by any stretch, but surely having these names in the comp could only promote sydney footy and perhaps attract more quality players to other clubs in the league?Comment
-
other quality players would come for dollars, clubs in the league operate on tight budgets, some more than others, the only way Balmain have been able to is with the $$$ coming from a development, without this coming off it would be odds on none would of signed and the club would of seriously struggled yet again.
Fortunately for them, serious coin has come along and they can buy who they like, I am sure most other clubs would try too if they had the $$$ but reality is clubs struggle, Balmain was one of worst in prior years if this didnt come off would of been interesting how things would of turned out.
There would be hardly any other team in the comp with the $$$ available to go close to what Balmain is spending, so attracting ex swans and afl players would be highly unlikely.:Comment

I don't think anyone really knows. But it will be interesting to find out.....

I completely agree with $$$ being the issue Purse. But if these blokes can get sydney footy to a level where people take notice, then perhaps companies would think about sponsoring one of the teams in their local area... Just trying to think of some positivesComment
-
its positive for the area definately (balmain), other clubs though wouldnt come close to being even able to pay the money these bloke would command and want. If clubs could get close I am sure a number of clubs in comp would of tried years ago to get them on board.:Comment

I know you are excited 48hrs but i think you are a little of the pace with a few of your comments. Saddington WAS a handy player at the swans in his time there years ago. He will not be the best CHF in this comp by a mile as you put it. Their is a bloke called Matt Withers that plays at the Wests Football Club who is one of the best players in the state, border clubs included. Not sure if you have heard of him but he goes allright. Janis Blums mainly plays at Fullback and is not the best CHB in the comp. You obviously got a game in the A Grade Ammos so you think it is @@@@ hot but some players outside each clubs top 8 would get a game in that comp. I dont disagree that their premiers would beat our premiers by 6-10 goals but I think you are pumping it up a bit too much. Could luck this year though champThe only All Australian captain charged with glassingComment
