    Round 2 Post-Match Analysis & Discussion

We're two weeks into the season, and another big day of football.

What have we learned from this round? Any big moments or sensational incidents? Which teams and players are looking impressive and who has more work to do?
Anyone who was at a game this weekend, what were your thoughts?

Was out at Monarch for the Rams v C'town Div 3 match....gotta say, the C'town 2's are bloody ordinary with the Rams beating them by 105 points...they look like a club in real strife if their two's are struggling in Div 3....

Saw the start of the Dockers and Blues 1st grade game....Dockers looked unfit and couldn't hold onto the footy.....

I went out to Monarch for the Balmain v Blues game. Campbelltown won by 23 in the end. Balmain are unfit, even they admitt it. They also lost 9 players from last weekends drubbing and went into yesterdays game with 12 of their best 22 out. I dare say even ECE would struggle with 12 of their best 22 out. Despite this, Balmain had the lead briefly in the third term.

Chad Fletcher and Nic Fosdike played and both were a glass above along with Tim Schmidt. Look out for Fletcher to get 3 points in the Phelan for this game.

For Campbelltown Kershaw and Love had good games.

I'd love to know what went down at North Dalton last night. Amazing that only 8 goals could be scored in an entire game - unless there was some localised rain that never made it to Sydney.

Mate if the breeze was up then that would explain it -I remember playing there in the old SFA days watching blokes kick the ball and see it go back over their head - it was like running with springs tied to you back - every step forward was felt like swimming against a rip.

Went to Monarch Oval to watch a game or two. Was hit up for $5 at the gate by the attendents who were very industrious and actually charged players that didn't object to the fee as well as support staff.
Penrith took the field in Div 3. despite the fact that the entry gate was well armed, Campbelltown could not provide any boundary umpires but the two club umpires and the official one did a fair job.
Penrith had to come from behind in their 105 point win after conceding an early goal. With about a dozen players under 21, Penrith ran their rivals ragged and should improve on last years effort in the bottom half of the comp. #32 for Campbelltown was their best.

Decided to stick around to watch the Balmain stars in action. Not many mercs or BMW's in the carpark. Maybe the WAGS were driving them and got lost on their trip to Campbelltown. Deciding to fuel up before the match, I selected the Pie and a Gatorade - $8 in total (don't know if the sauce was extra, but I took it off the table anyhow) Disappointed in my Gatorade...thought something was dodgy, got the 400mm (or similar) bottle and not the usual 600mm size. At least the pie was nice.

Campbelltown got the early jump and led by about three goals early but Balmain came back strongly with good work from Tim Schmidt who seems to have a common interest with myself with pies. Chad Fletcher stood out but I was surprised by a lower skill level than I expected at this level. For Campbelltown, Owen Love was their gun whilst ex-Penrith boys Dale Chivas and Jay Edwards were solid. At least some of our entrance fees were coming back to our area in the form of Dale and Jays paypacket. Can't report on the second half as I left as the second half was underway, anxious to avoid any "exit" tax. Went back to the Red Cow Inn to catch up with the boys and had a great feed and a few beers - $20 in total. Best value in my day.

I havent been out to Greygums but you obviously dont have a fence around it which means you need only one entry point. Im not sure what planet you have been residing on but ill give you a little tip, all the grounds ive been too in the last 17 years in sydney (Drummoyne, Wagner, Penno,Nth Dalton, Blacktown)with fences any spectators pay an entry fee(usually $5), players/officials generally dont pay but we have been stung at Drummoyne in the past if you didnt have your pass on you.Check with your club but we even had to give a list for the gate last week at Blacktown for players/officials so they wernt charged and we sent 4 emails to your club and Balmains asking for a list of 30 players/officials which they replied and yours didnt . So maybe you need to save your gold coins for next time or get yourself on the list. As far as the cost of a pie and drink for $8 seems like they might have made a mistake as i think the pies are normally $4 and a gatorade $3.50 so ill slip you .50c next round
The edge is not the limit, It's just the starting point...

Keep the change. Allow the 50c for the sauce. Our club actually received an apology from someone at yours saying that they missed our email listing 30 players and officials. No worries. Even prepared to give you a discount on the parking fees when you visit us next time. After all, we are pathway partners

Is $4 seriously the going rate for a pie in Sydney football these days?

What may have thrown ShortHalfHead out is that it's usually only Premier Division grounds with fences where the charge applies - and it's unusual for a Third Division game to be the curtain raiser for a Premier Division game, so they may not have expected it.

$5 shouldn't break the bank. (Although there was one embarrassing occasion when I was doing a match report from a game at Henson when I realised at the gate that I'd forgotten to call in at the ATM on the way to the ground and I didn't have any cash on me ).

I was out at Monarch to watch the Blues and Dockers play. I actually manned the scoreboard in the 2nd half. Not a bad match although the skill level was poor but it was an enjoyable afternoon nevertheless.

It cost me $5 for entry and $5 for a sausage roll and drink which is not bad for an afternoons entertainment.
