Round 5 Post-Match Analysis and Observations

Some interesting results around Sydney football again this weekend.
North Shore had Balmain on the ropes at half time but the margin hardly changed after the break. Meanwhile Sydney Uni pulled away in the last quarter against Penno. And plenty of other matches played throughout the divisions.

I'll be heading down to Monarch tomorrow to watch the Campbelltown v UNSW-ES game for this week's RWO report. Could be a season-defining game for both clubs.

So who's hot and who's not? Anyone see any sensational incidents? And did anyone see or do anything that impressed them or didn't impress?

Made the trip out to Monarch today and had a look at the Campbelltown v UNSW-ES game. Will write up more on the game in this week's RWO wrap later, but a few thoughts:
Owen Love is a gun. Particularly in the third quarter, when the game was there to be won, he put on some brilliant play today.
On a huge ground like Monarch, when you get some space to go for a run, you're well set. I enjoyed watching some of Mark Edwins' work through the centre.

After some of the recent discussion about Campbelltown on here, as an independent observer I can report that Campbelltown had water runners. I didn't get a pie, but $3 for a sausage sandwich is reasonable and consistent with what other clubs charge....

A good day of footy, in sensational conditions. We've had a great run with the weather so far this season, and Monarch looked a treat. Watched the second half in the grandstand - the new seating up there gets a thumbs-up from me.

Hey Norris, I made the trip out there also.(Seen the Blues twice this year for 2 wins.I must be a good omen) If Owen Love is No33 for the Blues I heartily concur. He was absolutely terrific kicking 6 or 7 goals with some monsters from outside 50. Love the way the Blues move the footy. They're certainly not the biggest side I've seen but they sure have some pace and with the HUGE field at C'town they certainly take full advantage.

Not sure who the coach of the Bulldogs is but as I was walking past their 3/4 time huddle and he was tearing strips off them in a baking that would have made Rodney Eade proud. Deserved too because it was only inaccurate kicking by the Blues that made the score look respectable.

BTW - We're you wearing a Swans polo and have a note pad and a radio.

What have we learned from this round?

Couldn't make it to the Dockers - North Shore match but a mate of mine said that that Balmain actually played quite well in the second half and moved the footy well. I know it could be said that North Shore just stopped trying but it would have been equally easy for the Dockers to drop their bundles too so credit where it is due. With their win in the 2s it was a decent weekend for them.

Penno are in simply ordinary form at the moment, what on earth is going on down there? It's not just their ones either, they are struggling throughout the grades. The Dockers will be full of confidence after Saturday, especially if they get Fletch and some others back so it really is a must win game for the boys at Penno. Couldn't see them losing but some serious questions will be asked if they do....

Have they shortened the width of Monarch from previous years? Still a huge ground but I thought a year or two ago that the wing boundaries were a fair bit closer to the fence.

Mighty Saints are starting to click with their new squad taking shape. Two wins on the trot shows the potential. Whilst a fair way off hallenging the leading few they look to win more their fair share of games aginst the bottom half teams. The 18s are still building and with the younger boys finding their feet they will be a force to be reckoned with come the end of season games

Have they shortened the width of Monarch from previous years? Still a huge ground but I thought a year or two ago that the wing boundaries were a fair bit closer to the fence.

Yes but not on purpose, mainly on the side closest to the car park towards the school. Was a mistake and will be rectified when next marked

Penno are playing pretty ordinary footy at the moment, but only in line with the huge amount of players they have out injured and unavailable.In fact looking at the selected sides this week ,they have 8 changes again.This has a domino effect throughout the club as a weakened first grade side means their reserves and under 18s are nowhere near full strength.I would think that the coaching staff and committee would be well aware why they are struggling at the moment and are eagerly awaiting the return of some of their better and more experienced players.
