    Round 7 Post-Mortems - Who's hot and who's not?

Another interesting round of footy among the divisions.
In Premier Division so far, St George have continued their resurgence with a handy win over Campbelltown, East Coast held out North Shore in a thriller at Gore Hill while Sydney Uni were too good for UNSW-ES.
Two more games tomorrow. I'll be heading up to Ern Holmes for this week's RWO report, with Penno taking on Wests; while one of Balmain and Wollongong will finally break their duck at Blacktown.
And through the divisions, some interesting results; and for many teams their first taste of wet-weather football for the year.

If anyone's been at any games, what were your thoughts? Who's impressing you, who isn't? Any key moments, sensational incidents or noteworthy occurrences?

Was at the ECE and Nth Shore game and was a great game but involved many momentum shifts... Vlatko dominated the first half but i thought Wason was easily the bombers best player until he was moved onto Vlatko. The bombers really lost ther run when he went to Vlatko.
As for the lower div matches Div 3 ECE V Syd Uni..
    1. Sydney Uni moved the game from the saturday to the sunday
    2. ECE have scheduled Country ball on the sat night which is dampened by the sunday game
    3. ECE rock up to Balmain V Syd Uni Div 2 in the wet.
    4. No change rooms, no undercover area.
    5. ECE are told 1 hour before the game and whilst another game is on that their game has been cancelled
    6. Syd Uni Div 3 would have had 8 players at the ground.
    7. Game forced to long weekend at the terrible St Pauls oval

Anyone else agree that Syd Uni obvisouly didnt hav the numbers to play the Div 3 game??

An absolute embarrassement on Syd Uni behalf.....

Funny situation - SU had plenty against us last week and obviously were rotating guys so its hard to understand them not having the numbers. Agree though that St Pauls as an AFL venue is a disgrace in terms of size and lack of facilties as well as the lack of any sort of canteen. That being said I feel for the SU guys that have to play there consistantly.

The Div 1 game between Syd Uni and UNSW/ES delivered an interesting final scoreline!

Dockers don't break the duck, but Davo with a haul of 10.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Surely a game cannot be postponed 1 day ie short notice without agreement from both clubs. Even the league should not be able to shift the day of a game with short notice .... at least they would not.

Wha?? There's a preference that St Paul's isn't used on Sundays. In any case I'm pretty sure it's the league that moves matches, not the clubs.
                3. ECE rock up to Balmain V Syd Uni Div 2 in the wet.
                About 10 of you.
                5. ECE are told 1 hour before the game and whilst another game is on that their game has been cancelled
Not in the hands of the club. The Uni groundskeepers gave the go ahead in the morning then told the manager halfway through the first quarter that the game that after this game the ground is closed. Don't know if you noticed on your way in but pretty much every other ground had a massive "ground closed" sign on it. The game was given every chance to go ahead before the rain got too heavy.
                6. Syd Uni Div 3 would have had 8 players at the ground.
                Mmm, not quite true either.

Just to clarify, you believe that Sydney Uni a club with another 30 odd players underneath the div three team would have conspired to allow the game before to go ahead before roping in the grounds staff to close off the grounds due to a lack of numbers?

PS: Were you the guy shrieking "This is a forfeit!"?

An absolute embarrassement on Syd Uni behalf.....
Well at least you're holding up your club's end of the bargain here.

It wouldn't be Sydney Uni's fault if the ground was closed - they'd be as pissed off about it as anyone else.

But unless the rain was a lot heavier south of the Harbour Bridge than it was on the north side, it would have to be one of the most ridiculous ground closures ever. We had some rain this morning, but it wasn't that bad. And Ern Holmes Oval was fine.

SPO holds a lot of water and gets chopped up pretty badly, hence the closure yesterday. Unfortunately the Uni ground staff are very quick to close the grounds (never for rugby though) which is as frustrating for SUANFC as it is for anyone - especially come winter when training becomes road running and star jumps because no ovals are available.

I can't help that things would be better if the government, the AFL and Cricket NSW built us a brand new ground.

I thought Collingwood might build you one. Somewhere out West would be fine, make it a shorter trip for some of the players...a win/win

                        Nice comeback!

Can we get back to the weekend's footy. Who saw games and some reports on performance of individuals or teams or outcomes of games. Much more interesting particularly at this time of the week.

All three games scheduled for Trumper (Div 1- Bats v Warriors, Div 2 & 4 Bats v Jets) were transferred to Bensons Friday afternoon, with the Bats taking the treble in some great footy. Was interesting to see UTS kick the first 6 goals of the Div 1 game before MU could blink, but a fine effort from a young Warriors side to only go down by 19 points.

Hahha no it wasnt me that was shrieking Forfeit!! I understand that it was'nt a forfeit, but the inconvenience of driving for an hour on a sunday morning after our ECE ball, when the game should have been on the saturday (Syd Uni changed it from a sat to a sunday game!!)... Now we will have to travel back to the same ground on the long weekend in which most of the players will have to change there plans for!!

It was already raining and the ground was soaked before the Div 2 game!!! Couldnt they realise that the ground was going to struggle before the Div 2 game started???

Correct me if im wrong but i believe it was the only SFL game not played in the round!!!!

ECE also had all 22 turn up by 11.10am, and from where ECE were standing there werent to many Syd Uni Div 3 players in sight....

Agree with Lurker also that if Ern Holmes can get on.. Any game can..

We played in near perfect conditions at Rosedale on Sat (albeit windy) yet in city their was torrential rain and I didnt notice anyrain out in the Hills district so hardly surpising some grounds were open and others closed given the fickle nature of the weather.
