    ... just catching up on some reading, and in light of this;

    "SADDINGTON AND KENNELLY TO JOIN SUANFC"
    I couldn't help but find this quote from Michael Shillito's round 16 summary to be very humorous (tongue in cheek?)

    Jason Saddington taught the Students a lesson on the forward line, with the former Sydney and Carlton player scoring six goals to spearhead the St George charge
    Thought this was of particular interest too;

    Premier Div
    St George 21.14 (140) d Sydney University 7.7 (49)

    Division Two:
    St George 8.6 (54) d Sydney Uni 5.6 (36)

    Under 18s One:
    St George 12.7 (79) d Sydney Uni 8.6 (54)
    I hope the SU "High Performance group (or whatever they call themselves)" were paying particular attention from the stands!!!

      Might have to get in touch with the contact at the UAC and up the ATAR points quota this year.

        As they say "Be careful what you wish for". Can't be a lot of fun at Sydney Uni with all grades getting flogged regularly. Can't be a lot of fun trekking down to Canberra in front of no supporters and getting flogged. It must have a flow on affect to the lower grades.

        I can see ECE perhaps thriving as they have some serious cash to splash but I fail to see how Sydney Uni can compete long term in the NEAFL. In fact I can't see how any other Sydney club will either unless they get a sugar daddy benefactor invlolved as they are pretty much playing semi-pro outfits in the ACTAFL and of course they Swans and GWS are fully pro.

        Another half baked attempt at football development by the NSWAFL. A much better plan would have been to have a much smaller comp - Swans, GWS, NT, Lions, Suns, ACTAFL Rep team,SFL Rep team and BAFL Rep Team (training twice a week together with players back at their clubs one night). High quality 8 team comp with the Rep Teams being seriously funded and the local comps not being decimated....

            I haven't been to this site for a couple of years after following footy in Sydney for a few years and I am glad to see there a few people saying what I have said in the past. Divisionalisation is destroying clubs. It may have been a tool of the times to crack a really hard nut but now it needs to disappear. Too many people are not moving forward. The answer lies in divisions that contain whole clubs and relegation between divisions. Relegation should be automatic with the premiers and wooden spooners moving. There can be exceptional circumstances where a second club could go down on request but only if another club is capable of the climb. Realistically if a club is successful its ressies and 18s will join the culture and an unsuccessful club gets the chance to rebuild.

            Forget this talk of teams it is clubs that are important to the future of the game. There would be nothing wrong with a club like NSWUni being in more than one division. They would have to have some limits on switching players but that is only a technical thing easily solved.

            As for the NEAFL I was a strong supporter of the east and west SFL rep teams being involved with one night at home club and selection on merit. The team would still stay largely the same week about and they could nominate a squad at the start of the year. This would strengthen the league rather than weaken it as players strove to be picked.

            Whether we are a traditional state or not does not matter. Structures are important and the club is the unit that underpins it all.

              Wow, so many posts on this site are so all bitter and twisted about Balmain & Sydney Uni. Do you all really have some great insight into these clubs?
              Do you really have an in depth knowledge into their finances? Unless you are on their committee, or are their accountants you can't possibly know.

                    I think it is beyond any argument that a viable club based model with automatic promotion and relegation is ideal.

                    It's also beyond doubt I believe that the divisionalisation has breathed life into previously struggling clubs like Penrith, Nor West and Liverpool/SWS/Moorebank.

                    Question is whether we are strong enough yet to make that step back. At the moment I'd say we're still too fragile in terms of development. Mismanagement in the following areas don't help

                    * NEAFL destroying the SFL's status
                    * NSWAFL backing pet projects such as Lebanon Utd instead of growing the game properly
                    * Creating a state-sponsored club in Blacktown that took half a team from Mac Uni

                    Whilst Gonzo throws obscene amounts of money into his TV club at Brekky Point the game here continues to be a basket case.....

                      We have had a whole weekend of finals with teams bowing out, other into grand finals and plenty going on and NOTHING!!!!!

                      I reckon the title of this thread is pretty spot on.

                      No one posts here anymore or more correctly, no one posts anything mildly interesting here any more. Sure if you have an axe to grind about how tough you are doing it at your lower grade club and noone will give you any help or if you have a bet and the other bloke won't pay up, this is the place to come but if you want to talk about footy.... Don't bother!

                      And yes, the irony of posting in a thread marked none posts here anymore is not lost on me.

                          Well how about you start us off then? You never know what response you might get.

                          And I don't recall anyone affiliated with any 'lower division club' doing any whinging recently, but anyway.

                            Northern Spy, you have had 5 posts since the season started, most about NEAFL.

                            Sounding a bit like people going to a game complaining about the lengthy wait for a sausage sandwich, but never even thinking about jumping behind the BBQ to help.
