    The Eagles have called a meeting tonight for all players, supporters and sponsors to attend at Purser, perhaps going down the same route as Belconnen and QBN as the article suggests?

      If they are that's massive for the rest of the comp. I'd imagine a few of their players (say 8) would be keen to continue at NEAFL level so they will move to SU or the remaining Canberra teams or the other 2nd tier comps.

      16 of the NEAFL Squad moves to PD. How will SHE rate amongst the top 5 PD teams? Better than Manly and Penno?

      PD becomes their 2nd Div team - they will smash that comp. Surely the League will elevate them back to Div 1?

      If this happens is it fair that SU become the defacto 'rep' team for Sydney AFL?

        No shocks here...

        "There is disappointment from the clubs over the AFL's lack of transparency and direction, as it looks to swing a scythe through the NEAFL, as they did last year when they cut the number of Queensland community clubs from seven to three and booted Tuggeranong out as well."

          I'm not surprised SHEagles have announced they are pulling out of the NEAFL. When the teams that win the comp or make the final decide to give it a miss that tells you that the rewards don't justify the struggles to stay afloat. The only way that's viable is if the AFL fund each club almost in its entirety.....and that ain't gonna happen.

          The lessons of Campbelltown during the 90s are more apparent.

          I guess it's just a matter of time before Sydney Uni follow suit. I realise their financial situation may be different but most of the problems SHEagles would have encountered must be shared here as well.

          It's an injection for the Sydney AFL prem div for next year which can't come soon enough. When you're the 7th best team playing park football in Sydney you really shouldn't be playing finals footy.

            I found this interesting;

            It is believed the preferred model for a Canberra NEAFL team is to be a new franchise, funded by Ainslie, Belconnen, Eastlake and Queanbeyan, with the old guard returning to play in the AFL Canberra competition.

            Read more: Belconnen and Queanbeyan look set to give NEAFL the boot

            ... but again, due to the "lack of transparency and direction" (see Keystone Kops!), who would really know?

            That model, however, seems to be the common sense approach ... essentially an ACT "Representative" Franchise ... just like there should be two or three franchises in Sydney set up in a similar way.

            Something that is relevant to all stakeholders, and sustainable ... I have no doubt that one of the outcomes would be retention for the SAFL Premier division clubs and strengthening of that competition.

            Who knows, maybe this is what is happening, most likely by accident though ...

              Now official;

              The AFL has today announced several changes to the format of the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL), as part of the ongoing process to ensure long-term focus on increased competition standard and enhanced talent pathways remains the foremost priority of the league.

              Following the structural changes implemented ahead of the 2014 season, there has been ongoing consultation with all of the participating clubs to ensure the League?s continued development as a second-tier Australian Football competition in New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory and the ACT.

              As a result of this consultation process, three clubs from NSW and the ACT - Queanbeyan, Belconnen and Sydney Hills Eagles - have opted not to continue as licence holders for the remainder of their three year agreement. All three clubs have cited the financial challenges involved in order to remain competitive within an increasingly improved standard of competition.

              ... nothing more mentioned about "structure", but surely this is the opportunity to change all NSW/ACT Franchises away from being club based, which, in spite of the support of about 3 people, has been a confirmed FAIL ...

                So I guess East Coast will be telling all the players that they recruited from other clubs with the promise of playing NEAFL to go to Sydney Uni

                    Didn't they recruit heavily though? I doubt 16 or so go back to playing for SHE's PD team. Chase cash elsewhere unless they can still pay them "NEAFL salaries"?

                      They wanted the ACT clubs to chuck in 150k each to form these rep teams - whether that was going to be annually, I have no idea. Can't blame Belconnen and Queanbeyan for telling them to bugger off. If they have a similar setup in Sydney I don't see where the money would come from - would the AFL stump up for all of it then run it themselves? It's an interesting scenario.

                        ... a drop in the bucket for the AFL to underwrite an ACT franchise and a couple of Sydney franchises, IF they were serious about "developing pathways" and not just giving the AFL clubs a ressies comp.

                        Love to know what the AFL NSW/ACT annual payroll runs out at (talk about taking money under false pretense), let alone their budget for Auskick kits for school kids who never play the game again ...?

                          Well, I'd say Manly will be aiming for back to back before the Eagles return to dominate Prems!

                            It makes this years title an important one to try and snare. The Eagles would be short odds to do another three-peat
