Had several looks at it on tube, was not a good look, but it appears that the UNSW player struck Linsen first, how the peanuts in orange, missed the UNSW player hit Linsen from behind and then the retaliation of Linsen, also from behind is beyond me.

Obviously all were listening to the music in the back ground and not watching the play.

Apparently UNSW are citing, seems a bit hypoctritical, this is becoming a trend from clubs, who are obviously not of the opinion that what happens on the field stays on the field, coming from a club who condoned the actions of a red headed grub a few years ago that played for them doing exactly the same thing.

Verdict, give them both a prescribed penalty and get on with letting the umpires adjudicate on the game and leave club officials out of the process.

Wise One, you must have been watching a different video from me. Linsen appears to undertake a midfield block and creates a collision all good. Then he for now reason that is clear to me he decides to chase the player down and give him a huge whack. That is outside the rules of the game and would attract the attention of the courts if it happened in the street. Maybe some consideration of the various 'one punch' laws being passed around the country displays the public mood.

My guess is that he will not play again in 2014 ... 3 to 4 match rest would be a fair result.

Citing is never attractive when undertaken by a Club ... however there is very clear evidence and absent having an MRP, this has to be the fall back position.

I just went to have another look at the incident ... but the video is no longer on the Sydney Live website ? Is this a policy decision where the tribunal is involved ? Does any one know the reason for its removal ?

I had a look this morning. If I was heading to the tribunal as an advocate, I'd much prefer to be representing the Dogs.

The first incident warranted a free kick to Wests. I'll leave the other one up to the tribunal

I saw it last night. It might have got pulled as a matter of routine when he was cited.
Or possibly because it's attracted interest from a couple of media people outside Sydney & they didn't want it to be shown on national TV before the tribunal sits.

Probably too late Norris wont be long before its on the news tonight.

Often Confused pretty clear why he took exception - no question who threw the first cheap shot.

Well, it's on Triple M Footy website now, so it's open slather. Only shows the punch though, in a GIF.

Full video of it a few minutes ago - clearly shows what lead to it and the punch in slow mo

Very rarely does the instigator get the punishment though Colesy, you've been around long enough to know that.

Dont disagree - going to make for an interesting first week of finals though isnt it given these two teams will most like match off against each other.

                        Sydney AFL statement:

AFL Sydney wishes to advise that a player involved in an incident during the AFL Sydney Premier Division Round 17 match between the UNSW-ES Bulldogs and the Western Suburbs Magpies has been cited, and the matter will be heard by the AFL Sydney tribunal on Wednesday August 20 at 6.30pm.

Marcus Linsen of the Western Suburbs Magpies was cited for striking, following an incident between him and Alexander Thompson of the UNSW-Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs during the third quarter of the match at the Village Green on Saturday August 16. AFL Sydney acted immediately, citing Linsen on Sunday.

The matter will be dealt with according to the AFL NSW/ACT Tribunal Rules & Guidelines.

No further comment will be made until the matter has been has been heard by the tribunal.

Incident is not a good look but the AFL should also be really concerned about the state of umpiring here.

Village Green is the size of a postage stamp yet as usual there are three central umpires appointed to the game so no excuses from them for not being able to see the play. Not only that you can clearly see the boundary ump right there on the spot and yet no free kick and no report. Seriously you have to wonder what else they missed out there.
