Can someone clear this up for me? i was just scanning over the clearances and noticed alot of players going to sydney uni who in fact are not on their neafl players list, there is also players such as Max Wilson, Ryan Bottin- noonan and few others from their team last year that are not on their team list for this year......Given only 7 players we mini - drafted how on earth are the players determined whether those players in fact neafl players or premier players? i thought the two were separate? is it not using their power unfairly, by attracting players for neafl and then just stacking their premier division?

The rules are incredibly complicated, and it'll take some tinkering to get it right. But players who were already at Sydney Uni are grandfathered from the new rules - in the case of Max Wilson & Ryan Bottin-Noonan, them being at Sydney Uni pre-dates the NEAFL; so they can stay in their Premier Division team even though they're no longer on their NEAFL list.

I think that the NEAFL model might be close to being resolved. Good to see Baulko back in the SFL fold and Sydney Uni just provide the alternate pathway to AFL footy. Let's be honest though it's a far fetched dram that someone will be drafted from Sydney Uni. They are thereto make up the numbers and satisfy the enormous egos of their committee and Sports Union, the vast majority of their players are mercenaries and have no real connection to the joint as in being students.

The real challenge for the AFL is that Sydney Uni are not allowed to destroy the local comp the way they have in rugby union by signing up every player under the sun from the Wallabies - how the NSWRU allowed Beale and Folau to sign there is insane.

          I'd suggest the following
A quarantined list of their top 30 players who can ONLY be used for NEAFL
Players allowed to be promoted only if injuries require it and those players are not available for Finals (I know I know it's a hypothethical)

Let them going on their little ego trip but don't let them destroy the local comp

Ryan Bottin -Noonan was a Campbelltown player and transferred to SANFL Club Central Districts in 2011. He was recruited to Sydney Uni for the 2013 season to join the NEAFL squad. Hardly pre dates NEAFL and if dropped from NEAFL list should be a free agent

It seems crazy that we need such complicated rules for one club that places itself above the code.

My personal view is that the NEAFL entity should effectively be treated as a completely different club - if you want to play NEAFL then that is all you can play.

Probably Steve Taubert (Ex St George coach) has been Swans ruck coach for years

Nah, not Steve Taubert - I know who he is because he jumped the canteen queue I was in at Drummoyne last year. This guy is a redhead.
Doesn't matter, we will all see him next week when the Swans are on TV and you will recognise him then.

PS - Are you sure that Steve Taubert coached St George ? I must have missed that one.

Here we go again, the great Mug Punter doling out his wisdom when it comes to all things Uni. I think you will find that quite a number of our recruits are studying at the University - I know for a fact Nick Winmar and Tom Young are to name a couple off the top of my head - so I'm not sure where you would get the idea that the players have no connection to the University. But even if they didn't what would that matter? We are a community club based at the University. Do new recruits to Manly have to be lifesavers at Queenscliff in summer? St.George players work at the Hurstville Meals on Wheels?

Your suggestions regarding how the NEAFL should work make no sense. You propose a squad of 30, eight of whom who wouldn't play in any given week assuming no injuries. That would be beneficial, having eight players twiddle their thumbs. There is no club in Australia at the state league level that would have such ridiculous restrictions. I'd also be interested to know how you are aware of the egos on the Committee given that over half of them are lower grade players from our 4th through 6th grade teams. They must have quite the egos to give up their time to help organize social events and run the canteen.

As for your comment regarding the rugby club, you are way off to start with because Beale plays for Randwick. Secondly, Israel Folau has never played for SUFC and actually provides a scholarship each year to a young Tongan player who qualifies to study at the University, which is probably more than you have ever done for anybody.

Also I think you might find we had someone drafted to the Swans last year but don't let facts get in the way of a good rant. And if you'll have a look at Sportsbet we are at about 5/1 to win the NEAFL flag so I'd say that's probably a bit more than making up the numbers.

Anyway you've again demonstrated your complete ignorance and your blind hatred of Uni, so if that was your aim, well done.

We place ourselves above the code. That's a good one. Must be why we have 250 registered players, the most teams of any senior club in Sydney and have never turned anyone down for a game.

Can you actually let us know here who you are and what you have ever done for football in Sydney? Maybe you're known to some here but I think most people would be interested to know why you feel that you have the right to slander people and clubs comprised of volunteers, one in particular.

Anyone who played for SU prior to 2015 is eligible to play Premier Division this season. There are a few other criteria that qualified players such as if someone is a current student.

It really only affects the players from interstate who come to the club, as anyone from a Sydney AFL club who wanted to play NEAFL this year such as Stephen Wray will go back to Penno if not selected which is fair enough. This was designed to encourage players from the Sydney AFL to try their hand at a higher level which is obviously good for us but also for them. I'm not sure why anyone we recruit from Perth or wherever should have to be farmed out to a Sydney AFL club if not selected in NEAFL, but they are the rules so there's not much we can do about it!

Student, MP is not constrained to a single club in his cheap derision. However, at least it starts a discussion.

It would be a treat if he focused on more positive statements. However, if we do not like it we can ignore or stop reading the blog.

I appreciate that but I can't help myself when some anonymous nobody slanders my football club. I'm all for banter and constructive debate or criticism, but the crap he carries on with is laughable.
