Return of The Manager's Corner Round 6

Hi and welcome to the return of The Manager?s Corner Round 6 of the 2004 SAFL Division 1 Season on a weekend where the Penrith Rams Football Club are striving to do what they haven?t done for 2 years ? Win 2 games on the trot and if they can beat Parramatta tomorrow, they may well be on the way to resurrecting the club?s fortunes both on and off the field.

I will review the miracle at Dukes Oval between Manly and Penrith last Saturday night.

    Penrith 13.16=94 defeated Manly 13.9=87

In a well-fought out game between bitter rivals at Dukes Oval on Saturday night, Penrith proved once and for all, the old adage: THE ONLY WAY IS UP. In the first quarter the Rams were outplayed by Manly and were lucky (I suppose) to only be trailing by 10 points at the First break. In the second quarter, the Rams found themselves chasing Manly and again at half time, were lucky to be in striking distance, trailing by 18 points. The third quarter was the match-winning quarter for Penrith, where they kicked 6 goals to 1 to lead by 24 points at the last change. The last quarter nearly proved fatal for the Penrith Rams as Manly piled on 4 goals to nil to level the scores with only 2 minutes remaining. A behind to David Cummings and a super goal to John Maguire put the Rams back in front with just seconds remaining. The ball was quickly won out of the centre by Patrick McLaren and marked by a Manly player in the Manly backline as the siren sounded to end the Rams 30 game losing streak. An enthusiastic rendition of the Penrith theme song was sung in the middle of Dukes Oval, as it was also the first win for first grade at the new venue.
