How quickly and smoothly did Luffys boys move the ball around the ground?
I'll let you tell Cameron Templeton that he's not a big boy, Mightyswan!!!

Yes, he played. Was kept quiet and only kicked 1. I guess that's a good sign for the Dogs if they can win by 100+ points without Templeton firing.

A bit of both. Shineborg played a solid game in the backline for St George, but the Bulldogs had so many other avenues to goal. Templeton only kicked 1 goal, but set up plenty of chances then went in short rather than having a shot himself.

I've got another page of pics from the St George v UNSW-ES game up - I took too many pics for them all to make the match report, but for some more pics that I've picked up from the cutting room floor, click here .

Bulldogs of to a flying start

UNSW/ES are going to stretch a lot of teams up forward with Luff, Templeton & Pech going forward.

With the league getting rid of the 6 players being under 23 rule this is now a very different competition. Certain clubs such as East Coast & Uni have obviously recognised this and recruited very well.

Clubs such as St George who try and use local juniors used to have an advantage over some clubs because other teams would have 6 guys in there 20 who would not normally be good enough for first grade but had to be played.

This is now not the case, clubs no longer have to do any work in there areas to try and promote football as at the end of the day what is the reward to the club?Nothing.

Uni will go a very long way as they have a experienced side of well credentialed footballers.

Shearer, let me assure you that the abolition of the Under 23 rule had nothing to do with East Coast's forward planning / recruiting.

Last Sunday, 10 of the First Grade 22 were juniors developed in the Eagles' "zone" and if the asterisk had to be marked against U/23 players it would have been shown against 10 of them and certainly not the same ten.

Your comment that clubs no longer have to do any work in their areas to try and promote football is way off the mark in the Eagles' case. We recognise that there is significant strength in the juniors emerging into senior football but they must be balanced with strong imports along side them.

And also note that apart from one local player who approached us about changing SFL Clubs, every 2005 recruit has come from outside NSW.

Oscar who was the local player that you picked up from another SFL club?

Oscar, please do not interpret my comments as being about East Coast Eagles.

I have great respect for the way your committee has worked hard to enable the club to draw good players from other leagues to add to your existing juniors. And clubs such as Penno are in the same boat.

Just wanted to get our personal position / strategy across.

PS. Mark Petersen from Balmain has joined us for 2005.

Mark Petersen would struggle to get a run in your first grade team this year wouldnt he. How come he left Balmain?
