With hindsight, they probably have the numbers to fill two grades this year, but it didn't look too promising at the start. Initially there was some talk of them having a merged side joining with the ill-fated Katoomba-Lithgow Mountain Lions, but that fell by the wayside along with Mudgee's first grade aspirations. I would think if Mudgee have a successful year and the numbers continue to increase, that both the CWAFL and the Mudgee Club would have a closer look at the make up of the competition for 2006, which would no doubt include the investigation of the Black Swans returning to First Grade footy. The CWAFL are 100% committed to promoting AFL in Mudgee in whatever form it takes, and it looks as though the committment of those diehard few players and committee members that have persevered with the Footy Club, and the CWAFL who have persevered with Mudgee will be rewarded with a solid player and supporter base and future growth of the game. All that said, we still have an uphill battle promoting our game in the heart of League territory, but we are at least getting some decent publicity and for the first time ever, League and Umpires Sponsors.

Sounds a lot like what we battle with here in Newcastle!!!

Its good to see footy in the bush making inroads in the RL areas. One day we will educate the masses and they will see the light!!!

In the past locally we have promoted teams to 1st grade because "they had the numbers" and they ended up getting smacked & a lot of negative publicity followed. Perhaps (and only time will tell) an extra year for the Black Swans in the 2's only may be adventageous.

I hope it all goes well
