Bennys Corner: 2003 SFA Premiership Season Round 2

Hi and welcome to Round 2 of the 2003 SFA Premiership Season.

Two weeks ago saw Round 1 completed and already some surprises have happened.

UTS 10.19=79 defeated Norwest Jets 8.12=60 at Bensons Lane
First quarter was very even between both sides with some physical play.

    1/4 Time: Norwest Jets 4.4=28 UTS 3.3=21

Second Quarter saw UTS assert their authority on the scoreboard as
Norwest tried to find a way of stopping the onslaught

    1/2 Time: UTS 7.9=51 Norwest Jets 5.6=36

Third Quarter saw the Jets kick the first 2 goals to take a 3 point lead over UTS.
UTS then kicked a steadying goal to take a seven point lead into the last change.

    3/4 Time: UTS 8.13=61 Norwest Jets 7.12=54

The last quarter saw UTS kick the first two goals to effectively seal the game leading
10.19=79 to 7.12=54. The Jets added a further goal before the siren sounded for a
    UTS win.

Final Score: UTS 10.19=79 defeated Norwest Jets 8.12=60

    In other games
Sydney University 8.8.56 defeated Wollongong 4.8.32 by 24 points at North Dalton Park.
    J. Considine kicked 2 goals for Sydney Uni and B. Cummins was best for Wollongong.

Macquarie University 16.8.104 defeated South West Sydney 9.15.69 by 35 points at Rosedale Oval
    A. Convery kicked 4 goals for Macquarie Uni and P. Free was amongst the best for the Magpies.

    Now to ANZAC Weekend Football
The match of the round will be between neighbours Penrith and Parramatta at Gipps Road Oval.
Congratulations to Brett Walsh who plays his 100th game for the mighty Rams. Well done Brett.
The corresponding game at Greygums Oval last year saw Penrith 19.6.120 defeat Parramatta 10.12.72 and later in the year saw Parramatta turn the tables on Penrith. Scores were Parramatta 14.11.95 defeated Penrith 7.5.47. The game was closer than the scores indicated.

The Rams, under the guidance of first year coach Stephen Allen, welcome back club stalwarts Glenn Bradley & Jason Boneham along with former Sydney Magpies player Paul Webster and former Campbelltown Panthers player David Bradley. They have been joined by Brett Cameron, Martin Butchers and Peter Laspatzis along with a plethora of Under 18 players fresh from playing in 2 Grand final winning sides.

Parramatta will be out to upset the Rams apple cart with players such as the Kassem Brothers and a former junior in Pat Gallagher but Penrith should be too strong and will win by 2 goals.

In other Anzac weekend football news
UNSW/ES to win by 30 points against Manly at Village Green
Sydney Uni to win by 18 points against the Jets at Sydney Uni No. 1 Oval
Wollongong to win by 12 points against Macquarie Uni at Roger Sheeran Oval
South West Sydney to win by 30 points against Cronulla at Rosedale

    Until next week

Good luck to all 4 grades playing this week

THIS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE
    Bennys Corner
