Sydney AFL Team of the Year

In each league I am involved in, I select a Team of the Year based on my observations, best players as selected on the website and league medal vote getters.
With that in mind, here is my Sydney AFL Team of the Year for you to look over, comment about, and perhaps select your own to rival it.
Finals are not taken into account.
The only changes that I make to my points system are to elevate the two leading goalkickers into the 22, while on this occasion I also elevated two ruckmen as I didn't have one in the original list.

    The Team

B: Rob Phillips (UES), Troy Bartlett (Wol), Ben McNamara (ECE)
HB: Trevor Burnett (Wol), Justin Barratt (PH), Rod Craig (StG)
C: Dean Davies, vc (NS), Cameron French (Bal), Marty Brewster (WS)
HF: Marc Lord (NS), David Coupe (UES), Barnaby Howarth (PH)
F: Brad Abbott (UES), Laine Spencer (PH), Luke Holcombe (PH)
FOLL: Dale Odgers (WS), Paul Gambale, c (WS), Jarrod Crosby (NS)
INTER: Mark Skuse (Cam), Jon Bradfield (WS), Adam Fiddler (WS), Troy Luff (UES)
EMERG: Kieren Jack (PH), Jon Vlatko (ECE), Anthony Brawn (PH)
    COACH: Michael Hosking (NS)

I agree, good team list from many teams.

But have to question naming of Dean Davies as Captain (somehow everything i say is always against this kid!) - good player but a better leader than some of the other more senior players there?

However, i presume you were just going from league leaderboard for vote getters...agree with the rest just for the record

How does this team compare with the Syd Rep team? I realise many players make themselves unavailable.

I noticed the NRL for their Dally M awards did not automatically award the highest vote getter in each position as the player of the year in that position.

Although the team is solid as, I hate the thought of using umpires votes(lets face it, what the hell are they doing giving out free kicks and votes) as some players who have had a quality consistent year in either a good team or not-so-good team could creep under the radar.

Dean Davies is actually the vice captain to Paul Gambale.
The system uses mainly points gained from the best players as named by their clubs versus the winning or losing margin in that match.
Davies was, I think, ranked fourth to Gambale at this stage.
Then the final medal votes are added in with a weighting of three points per vote, which lifted Davies to second and vice captain in my book.
His teammate Marc Lord was second before Phelan Medal night but dropped to about 12th I think after he only polled four votes.
So the umpires' votes play a role in this, but by no means is it the most important or the only role.
The league best and fairest winner back home only made vice captain to the runner up, to illustrate my point.

PS. I will name my Top 50 in coming days.

Does best/second best player in the comp (or in a team for example) deserve Vice Captaincy automayically? That's news to me...

My point was that captaincy is a reward for leaders in the comp, not best players.

IMO the best leader in that team without any doubt would be Burnett.

                Luff or Howarth 2nd best.

I think Howarth seemed to be the best leader in the comp. He was the rep team captain. AND since his tragic stroke mid season, penno never looked like really threatening. They hung in there but really only scraped through. And the only evident change was the on feild loss of Howarth.
