While no commitment has been given to keep the current premiership team together, the out-of-contract Ryan O'Keefe is close to agreeing new terms and the Swans seem unlikely to part with any other major talent.

``Paul has always given us 100 per cent whenever we have called on him and we wish him success at Sydney,'' Geelong coach Mark Thompson said yesterday.
``We feel with Steven King and Brad Ottens as experienced ruckmen and the continued development of Mark Blake, and the options we have with Henry Playfair and Cameron Mooney, Paul's opportunities would have been limited,'' Thompson told the club's website.
``We wanted to be fair to Paul and the Swans have a need for another ruckman and we have been able to work with Sydney so that everyone benefits.
doyle will b pushed in2 the starting line-up 4 his loyality 2 the club, with chambers offering competition 4 his job. whether either can cement thier place remains 2 b seen, goodes moving on ball is always an option

Dont know about that aceman. Loyalt counts for very little in this day and age of corruption and backstabbing where everything is driven by the corporate dollar. It plods but what can you do about it?

i've made mention of the steady decline of such virtues as loyalty among players, which came apparent 2 me after compiling a variety of statistical lists covering swans history from 1897 2 this present day. it's tru that clubs now 2 readily trade or cut players with balance & success in mind, at the expense of team character & integrity of players records. doyle has remained in the shadows of 2 more effective ruckman & has performed the role of back-up when needed. as the next in line i believe doyle deserves at least a short period in the top grade 2 press his claims, although i suspect like newcomer chambers, that he's some way of starting & the rucking duties most likely fall 2 the reluctant goodes

Get it right. Doyle's problems have nothing to do with loyalty. Just look at the story on the Swans website:

(This is a summary)
Doyle out for season
3 May 2005
Sydney coach Paul Roos could be forgiven for wanting to erase the past three weeks.
Now he will be without ruckman Stephen Doyle for the remainder of the season after the 24-year-old sustained a knee injury in the opening round that will require surgery on Thursday.
"I almost think it is a sense of relief that at least he can go in and get it sorted out, and then have 16 to 17 weeks (recovery), but it is seeing some light at the end of a pretty long tunnel."
Sadly for Doyle the light at the end of the tunnel usually winds up being the light of a train coming the opposite way.
Taken by Sydney in the 1999 National AFL Draft under the father-son rule at number 26 overall, Doyle made his debut in 2000.
But ankle woes marred his development and he could only managed 20 games in his first four years - and never more than three consecutive games heading into 2004.
Last year he managed 19 games as backup ruckman to Jason Ball and as a tall forward and big things were expected of him this season.
Go Swannies, please highlight the section of the article u've posted which relates 2 what i've written. my comments about loyalty relate not 2 doyle specifically, but 2 all current players in general, as it's a statically proven fact that modern players switch teams more often & r on the whole less loyal & honest. i'm fully aware of doyle's battle with injury & wish him the best this season, however i'm still of the belief goodes is a superior ruckman & may b called on again 2 fulfil this role as doyle is not of 1st grade standard
