    Paul Chambers

    Geelong has traded ruckman Paul Chambers to Sydney in exchange for the Swans' second round pick - No.35 overall.

    source - www.afl.com.au

    He's not Spida, but we got our ruckman.

    Welcome aboard Paul.
    "It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

    This year we had 2 good ruckmen. Next year we'll have one good, and 2 okay, ruckmen. After all of the hype and chinwagging, the whole equation has turned out to be very straightforward.

    You can't click your fingers and demand a replacement for Jason Ball (unless you submit to a bad value trade that would bite the team in future years) any more than we could click our fingers and demand the 'elite' midfielder that we wanted last year. You make do with what's available-- and our stunning success with Jolly this year (among others) shows that Sydney is probably the best team in the comp at getting the maximum on-field performance out of its talent.

    Chambers (probably) won't be an automatic 22 pick if everyone is fit. He'll need to earn his stripes; and good luck to him in doing it.

    We might not be West Coast, but we sure as hell aren't St Kilda, in the ruck department.

        Hope this refreshing optimism is well placed. But Jolly was playing second string to one of the best rucks in the competition. "Torture" Chambers (as I've now dubbed him) is 4th string in a fairly mediocre line-up.

        Doesn't get my pulse racing I'm afraid. Beef up Doylely - your team needs you!!

          But you can never predict what someone will do with a supportive team, a supportive coach and an excellent medical team etc.

          I think Roosy will give him a great chance to test himself and better himself - might not be fantastic next season but maybe the one after.

            Everyone here thinks Jolly is a good ruckman now. And fair enough. For the 2nd half of the season he was our no.1 ruckman ahead of Ball, starting most games in the centre while Ball was either on the bench or up forward.

            However, 12 months ago I reckon the same people were crying out that we'd wasted a 1st round draft pick on a hack that couldnt get game time behind Jeff White.

            How things change.

            We truly have a good solid bunch of capable young ruckmen now. We can probably afford 1, even 2, injuries to any of them during next season, which is inevitable with big men.

            And for pick #35 in a ********house draft, I reckon thats a bargain. If it doesnt work and he turns out to be a hack, well, we've lost absolutely nothing.

                Oh dear.

                Please let this mean that we're going for Spida and Chambers. This is a silly decision... unless the plan is to trade Doyle (surely Jolly is untouchable) to the Hawks.

                Saddo --> Bulldogs.
                Doyle, 19 and 27 --> Hawks.
                Everitt --> Swans.

                So Everitt would cost us Doyle, Saddo and Pick 19. Expensive, but tolerably so.

                      From the AFL report:

                      "The speedy David Spriggs, delisted by Geelong at the end of 2004, played just five matches for Sydney in 2005 but he was affected by injury. He had managed 64 games in five seasons with the Cats, but only five matches in his final season at Skilled Stadium. Spriggs also had reconstructive surgery in 2002. If the 24-year-old is able to get his body sound he could be a handy player for the Swans in future seasons. "

                        intolerably so. Thats getting irrational. Put yourself in Hawthorns position....you jump tall buildings for that sort of deal. Why dont we throw in the SCG as well to really sweaten it.

                          Don't be ridiculous! It's Saddo (a fringe player who doesn't look like getting a game any time soon) and two rubbish draft picks (Doyle is essentially pick 35, since Chambers would be the direct replacement for Doyle, and a more reliable one injury wise) for one of the two best ruckmen in the comp.

                          You're obsessed with rebuilding, but we are the reigning premiers, with a couple of years left to win more flags. It's completely illogical.

                            So true, from Hawthorns position

                            Pick 19 + Doyle + Saddo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 1 year of Everitt's service.

                            Should not pay more than Pick 19 for him really. Anything else is ripping us off.
