    The Dons - Round 1

Well for those of us fortunate enough to attend Friday night, Essendon are our 1st Round opponent. Is anyone willing to make a prediction of the result on 1 April?

The Dons were close to full strength at times (rotation was frequent) and they were troubled by youthful exuberance combined with a touch of good skill.

My money is on Sydney to club the Dons heavily. I think we will beat them by 40. If there is one certainty in life it's this, Gary Ayres should never have returned to footy after retirement. He's a black cloud that will hurt Essendon this year!

too many options for the Swans up forward, too few quality defenders for the Dons. They have some good potential in Bradley and Laycock, other than that, they are not really on the up.

My only prediction is that I will be there. A few mates and I are making our way down to Melbourne town. I can't wait.

Any win against the Bombers in Melbourne is a good win be it 1 point or 100 points. I'm tipping somewhere in between.

I reckon we'll win but I'll leave tipping a margin until I see who lines up for us. Anything can happen injury wise over the next 5 weeks.

Thats part of the punt. It would be easy if we could see the line ups now, but we can't so you have to go out on a limb now.

No doubt we will all be asking the same questions in the lead up week and then you can tell us your more informed prediction.

Swans by 32 in front of a sell out crowd.
Thousands locked out demand to know why a game between two high drawing crowds in melbourne was not left till later in the season and held at the G after the Com Games.

This is definitely our biggest round 1 match in a while.

Both teams will be raring to go but you'd hope we'll have a bit more talent over the park.

I agree that any win over Essendon in Melbourne is a good one - it hasn't happened too often.

Also, Swans tend to play Telstra Dome quite well - not sure what our record is but apart from a few St Kilda shockers we tend to go OK.

                          hope i am wrong!

But i reckon the Dons by 3 goals. As i said in the subjet heading, i hope i am wrong. Just think Essendon has more to play for round 1, are playing at home, and it might take the swans a couple fo rounds to get back into the rythm (call it a hangover if you will). But the way the club has lead up to the past few seasons, they delay the players a bit so they peak when it counts most.

Having said that, if we used a practice match (with only 16 players) as a guide, the swans shoudl thrash them with a full team.

I'm with you jeffers...I haven't had the last laugh on my sisters, brother and Mum, all of my life until last year, so I'm happy for it to continue and 1 point would be nice, but 4 goals would be better.

Just find it really hard to tip against the bummers down here. We are usually slow starters and with the shortened pre season it's going to be tough.

Swans by 1 point (Super Ted goal after the siren!!!)
