Originally posted by cowcar But i reckon the Dons by 3 goals. As i said in the subjet heading, i hope i am wrong. Just think Essendon has more to play for round 1, are playing at home, and it might take the swans a couple fo rounds to get back into the rythm (call it a hangover if you will). But the way the club has lead up to the past few seasons, they delay the players a bit so they peak when it counts most.
Having said that, if we used a practice match (with only 16 players) as a guide, the swans shoudl thrash them with a full team.
Completely disagree.
It is our home ground.
We have just as much to play for.
We are better.

"Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I can beat you, I've got Charizard!"

Hmmmm ... Being as Swans as they come, I won't disagree with common sentiment that we will win ... I'd put a conservative 11 points on it ...
But third on the ladder after round 1? Behind Adelaide (playing the colliwobbles at TD) and Geelong (playing the Lions at SS) ... I don't think that will be the case ...
Though I would love to see West Coast on top after round one (the are playing the Ainters at Subi, Fri night), I think the team with the most chance of a blowout score will be the Bulldogs against Richmond ... And Port Adelaide would have to be considered playing the Roos ...
Oh heck, who cares, Swans to win ... bring it on ... who cares about the ladder this early ... Lets see where we are come August ...
Originally posted by robbieando Dare I say Mathews????
Only in your dreams. If Mathews is fit come round 1 he will be in the team. He has the runs on the board.
If you were going to bring the three players listed in, a taller player would probably have to make way. In terms of pecking order, Dempster is the most vulnerable.

I'll settle for 8th after Rd 1 (assuming there is no drawn game that weekend!).
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I chose not to speculate on the identity of the players omitted from the side nor the reason for the omissions. My guess is based on how we usually have some players who aren't ready to play in round 1. Last season Fosdike didn't play until round 14, MOL until round 4, Noggy didn't play in round 1, etc.
It's rare for a premiership side to take the field together again. It's never happened in the AFL. Getting 19 out of 22 on the field in round 1 would be a good achievement.

Just jumped on the net and bagged my seat, level 2 behind the goals at the Coventry end. Never been to C**ksucker Stadium before so looking forward to it.

The Ticketmaster site is a doozy. Ask for the best seat available it gives you a crap seat. Ask for level 2 and you get it. I presume the members purchase site is for Melbourne based members, but it?s irrelevant for us Sydney based members as we haven?t got our cards and bar codes yet. You take what you can get.
Anyway, the Cheer squads don?t sit on level 2 and if I?m at the wrong end I can abuse the Bombers cheer squad from above. I grew up in an Essendon recruiting zone so those clowns are no problem to me. Actually I miss the interaction with opposition fans at home games ? in Melbourne it is part of the fun of going to the footy.
