    Young Swans the Key: Hall

"I suppose last year, you don't like to categorise players, but that middle-tier players made the difference.

"You expect the leadership group to play well, but it was that middle group of players who stepped up and, at the end of the day, they won (the competition) for us."

    Ain't that the bloody truth!

Hall will also play this Friday.

The season has well and truly started.
My Pokemon brings all the boys to the yard and they're like "Wanna trade cards?"
"Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I can beat you, I've got Charizard!"

I only partly agree with Bazza on this.

It is true that the likes of Ablett, Buchanan, Kennelly and O'Keefe have improved over the last couple of years.

But I'd argue that Hall, Kirky and Leapin' Leo are three players who have also markedly improved each year from 2002 onwards, despite the fact that common mantra suggests they should already have hit their prime 3 or 4 years ago. It has been steady improvement right across the team that has been the key.

I also agree with him that Hangover is more mental than anything else.

From the clubs on the weekend - Adelaide looked threatening, St Kilda on the other hand looked over-weight and unfit.

Interesting to see if West Coast can get themselves together mentally.

It would be a remarkable feat.

They didn't appear to have much mettle last year, highlighted and compounded by the problems they've had in the pre-season.

Despite everything thats going on within WCE, I think their major problem wil be lack of any forward line.

With the retirement of Phillip Matera, and the banishment of Gardiner to Claremont, they have huge problems up forward.

On the weekend it was laughable how easy Freo repelled WCE's forays forward.
