Goodness, I can't go through that again.

I'll have to support another team that has a long history; with a working class background (no silvertails!!) but with a considerable generational shift in it's last quarter-century; has struggled financially; but importantly, has a long established fanbase of realistic, wry, long-suffering punters who, although somewhat cynical, still manage to be generally warm, engaging & funny.

Cant argue that. We dont have to move very far to have good weather nearly all year round. Victorians have to cross 2 borders.

Yes, but notice how we Victorians choose to jump those two states rather than jump only one and go to the Central Coast. Obviously so we can avoid spending time with sydneysiders.

And yes i know that is a strange statement given i support a team now based in sydney and supported by sydneysiders....so I guess I have to admit that you guys arent all bad!!!!

What about South Australians, they may only have to cross one border, but it's a hell of a drive. Or the could just choose to stay there and it's just hell.

I suspect the lack of AFL standard grounds in NSW is to blame but fully agree that playing on the Gold Coast is ridiculous.

For such a long season, I can't believe there are 4 pre-season matches not to mention the LA game and North Sydney. When you think about the risk of injury and the heat factor it really is just a waste of time.

I think the focus of these 'games' needs to be as trials and not to be taken seriously nor risk unnecessary injury to players. Who cares how many people watch them or what the final score is, so long as it helps the players become match fit and nobody gets hurt.

Doubt it considering we are playing in Newcastle the week after anyway, so we know that AFL standard grounds in NSW isn't the issue. I believe that the AFL just want to hold the game on the Gold Coast without the Lions involvement to test the waters, while at the same time having a big enough stick to get Gold Coast residents to attend the match in the numbers they have the past two seasons and what bigger stick can they use than having the current AFL premiers playing a so called powerhouse Melbourne club.

Agree, hence why the club hasn't played the senior players in the LA and North Sydney game and slowly brought them back in the next three games. I doubt playing a game at Cararra will hurt us later in the season. Playing a game in Adelaide last preseason didn't hurt us did it??

When you think about the risk of injury and the heat factor it really is just a waste of time.
There is a risk of injury regardless of where the game is played and Cararra is of AFL standard and will be used twice this years for Home and Away matches, so I doubt the surface will be sub-standard, in fact I think it will be in better shape than Newcastle in a weeks time. The heat is an issue, but the game is at night so we should get some relief from that front. Didn't here the complaints about the heat at Optus Oval last week or Canberra the week before - All during the day.

The Swans have a LOT of support from people just over the border. It is only an hour to Lismore from Cararra. And Lismore Ballina Byron Bay people do NOT identify with Quoinsland or the Brions at all.

I hope Tony Morwod is up there with his travelling bandwagon of goodies. A match like the one of Saturday could be an awesome opportunity for passionate Swans fans in SEQ Nth NSW to get motivated and oerganising into a Brisbane-based supporters club.

Ironically I will be in Brisbane for work earlier that day, so will look at changing my flight and staying up to support the boys.

JF (who just called Les Cygnes and then realised that I could actually get to see the game myself!)

You can say that again, but then again who in Brisbane would go for the lions - one of maybe a few chances to see the mighty reigning premier - I will be there

Does anyone have any details - like maybe time of the first bounce

                    cheers

                      Carrara game

Passionate Brisvegas swans supporter here with my virgin post, so hello to all fellow bloods.

I believe the kickoff time is 7.10 this saturday, qld time, should be a beauty, went to the Lionsv Ess gane 2 weeks ago on G/C and did see a few Sydney supporters amongst a sea of all manner of club supporters.

Saw us win at Gabba last year and was surprised by the support for us in the dying moments and the gusto with which the theme song was sung. Mind you it was 1 in a long line of incredible wins last year, oh the memories!!!

                        Sweet thanks for the info

Yep I too was there at the great gabba escape as I like to call it - was behind the goals at the action end in the final quarter - if i recall correctly Bazza put the winning kick right on top of my head - much to the dismay of the lions supporters around me - was a great week.

Great escape allright I remember thinking for much of the night that we were playing some very ordinary football and to win from that position against a power like Brisbane was mad.

The night was also memorable as I donned in swans scarf was involved in my first tussle (since early teenage years), with a disgruntled Lions supporter whilst having a kick on ground after game.

I am coming up for the match on Saturday. Just watch out for the bloody big flags & come & say hi. Hopefully we can get a decent group together and give the boys a bit of vocal support.

We really need to sit down with the club and seriously get a proper Qld-based supporters club going. So that we can all sit TOGETHER at the game in May at the Gabba. It is mega easy getting as many tickets as you want for the Lions match up there through our club offices in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Looking forward to spending the weekend up there, with work paying for absolutelyeverything! (except the accom on Les Cygnes floor on the Sat night LOL)

I think you guys are thinking about this all wrong - perhaps the AFL is looking at the Gold Coast TIGERS!. imagine, there supporters IQ would immediately leap 70 pts with all 27 new GC supporter instead of the 50000 troglodytes down south. having the swans there makes it a showcase game for the relocation team.
also, this game is just fine for us swan supporters - living on the far north coast who have relocated from the cathedral that is the scg!.
remember rex got thumped in byron because he played for richmond!
they'll pay close to a full GF team, be gunning for spots - especially vogels and super ted, blow out the cob webs and beat the stinkin' tigers as they deserve!!!!

Ah the memories! Your first AFL stoush....

Keep fighting the good fight TS! I think there are many good Swans v Lions memories ahead - the shellacking at Telstra Stadium last year on a beautiful clear Sydney winter's day was one of my highlights of the H&A season last year.
