It has been stated in the press several times, Port, Freo and WC. Not Swans.

Thanks for that.. ultimately thats all that matters, but now i am curious to the responses and as to why this would make sense that Crouch would comment on it (what did the cat die of??)

I don't think it strange. SMH approaches Swans for a player quote. Swans offer up Mr Sheen.

Imagine the panicked posting if Nick Davis had given the quote.

Crouch position is identical to the rest of the interested parties AFLPA, AFL and no doubt the club.

I would have thought most people in the sport are fully supportive of the AFL taking out the injunction, as well as bringing in the Feds to investigate the leak.

I don't blame the players being annoyed at the leak. They are under no obligation to be tested for recreational drugs. They agree to do it to improve the welfare of players that may have a problem. They also do it under condition that players names will not be made public.

Also to suggest that Crouch who makes a reasonable point is somehow using drugs or is covering for someone who is doesn't make sense.
I just think that speaking out like this brings the focus of drug use to our club. He is not condoning it I agree and he is speaking up for the privacy of players I agree. However my first thoughts were why is he speaking out, who is he defending from our club?

I remember someone who once also mentioned drug use, granted not in the same vein but the fall out he copped was massive for bringing that subject to light and in someway connecting the club to drug use.

I would guess alot of people would also look at it in the same light as I did.

Jared is one of my favourite players and I admire him dearly. I am not in any way trying to make light of him or disrespect him or his opinion.

That's why I find it odd that he speak out about it 2 weeks before we begin defending the flag and are still on a drive for membership off the back off the premiership win. Mum's and dad's may not be too happy to hear players speaking out about defending the identity of 'drug users' and the image it may set for their kids.

this is why people of principle should speak up on principle when issues like this arise. if people did this more often in the afl, there might not be such a flap every time somebody voices an opinion on a situation in which they are involved.

i liked the comment regarding the hypothetical situation of nick davis speaking out.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I do know that Crouchy is quite a devout Christian, so this may influence his vehemence on this issue.

From what I infer into what he is saying, he has no confidence in a system that is not water-tight in protecting players privacy. Kind of like the situation with Brownlow votes, but personally damning.

How come everyone appears to know the named players except me as well?

I don't think that Crouchy was doing anything more than stating that if privacy laws can be breached this easily on a voluntary drug screening program, then it can't be trusted.

I think some are reading a lot into his statements trying to link it to even suggest drug use at the Swans. Do you really think Crouchy would make a statement if there was drug use at the Swans? I don't think he is that stupid.

I don't condone illegal drug use, but unless the substances are on the banned list (and they well might be, I am not familiar with the list) then there is no reason to name them. It is also in breach of our privacy laws to do so. Or do the privacy laws only apply when it protects our own privacy?

Since Schauble isn't with the Swans any longer, Crouch has to be the squeaky-clean spokesman on all drug issues. Remember last year's claim by Schauble?

It's not too hard to find them if you trawl around some footy boards and use your imagination.

(Or at least, not too hard to find the names that people seem to be accepting are the applicable people - no idea whether there is any basis behind the consistent "assumptions")

I heard it was Darren Goldspink, Kevin Sheedy and Christie Malthouse - all at the same ex-Nth Melb captain's house.

Mr Lobster, expect a call from the AFL legal Counsel. However, you are wise not to mention the Jared Crouch connection.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
