    2nd.

My (very) detailed list analysis will follow sometime over the weekend but I can give you the overall result now which is that best list x prospects for improvement = rating for the season sees the following prediction

    Adelaide
    Sydney
    Brisbane
    St. Kilda
    Bulldogs
    Hawthorn
    Essendon
    West Coast
    Collingwood
    Melbourne
    Richmond
    Port Adelaide
    Geelong
    Kangaroos
    Fremantle
    Carlton

Things to note...many teams have a lot of talent at the top but little or no depth (Melb, Eagles)

Geelong are just ordinary and have less depth than most other teams as well. They will struggle.

    Ditto Kangaroos.

Bulldogs, Richmond and Adelaide are the teams most poised to improve dramatically (a la Sydney 2005)

Adelaide were minor premiers despite having huge scope for improvement. Be afraid, be very, very afraid.

On a simple list analysis (which takes into account the ENTIRE 22) it is St. Kilda at the top, slightly ahead of Sydney.

Eagles are 5th equal with Essendon.

Geez, gutsy call Sharp and I can hardly wait for the supporting analysis. This is far more imaginative than the professional analysts who are predicting, more or less, the status quo from last year as least as far as the H&A goes.

Melbourne Media to crack it because top three sides are interstate.

I think this year is make or break for Saints with their current list, but Ithink they are looking vulnerable. Brisbane will struggle but win will a few at home. (Fixter will come good for them) Essendon will be better next year. Bulldogs could go either way but they have injury problems.

I used the AFL Excel fixture, unprotecting it of course. I then went through a did a win/loss for each game throwing in the occassional upset and came up with this.
            Geelong 68
            West Coast 68
            Sydney 64
            St. Kilda 64
            Adelaide 60
            Melbourne 44
            Brisbane Lions 44
            Western Bulldogs 44
            Fremantle 44
            Kangaroos 40
            Port Adelaide 36
            Richmond 36
            Essendon 32
            Collingwood 28
            Hawthorn 16
            Carlton 16

There seems to be a belief that Collingwood will be big improvers but other teams will also improve, enough to keep the Pies low in the table.

The Eagles were not on top of the ladder at the time.

In each match I listed, the Swans won against opponents that were on top of the ladder at the time. In each case, the Swans were the first opponent to inflict losses, and other losses followed.

QF 2003 - Port were on top (18/22) but lost to us. They won the semi final but then lost the prelim. (1/3)

R11 2004 - The Saints were on top undefeated (10/10). They lost to us and their season went pearshaped. (7/15)

R17 2005 - The Eagles were flying high (16/17). After the Swans the Eagles lost form. (3/9)

Before Swans they look good: 90% win percentage (44/49)
After Swans exposed the pretenders: 41% (11/27)
