Nicky D and the SF (split thread)

Okay, this hasn't had a great deal of discussion apart from a general agreement with Kirk's view that Davis cost the team a goal by not following his man through the midfield. Kirk then apparently had a go at Davis, who then won the game off his own boot.
A lot was made about Davis losing his man through the midfield, as if he had just sat on his arse and let him run off. I noticed in a recent interview that Davis mentioned Kirk blowing him up and I detected the first bit of a little frustration in what Davis was saying, up until now he seems to have toed the company line a bit and just grinned and beared it... Am I the only one that sees/saw the following when watching the incident?

    * Davis is following his man through the midfield, he is a few strides behind his man as he had been making position himself only moments before
    * Davis calls to LRT (who is further downfield) to follow Davis' man into the forward line whilst Davis holds up LRT's man, who has gotten away from LRT and marked in the midfield
    * LRT looks very confused and just goes to stand next to Davis on the mark
    * LRT's man finds Davis' man all alone (who then goals)
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I disagree with you. Having watched it my interpretation is that Lrt hadn't lost his man by that much after he had just previously taken forever to take a poor kick.
Davis had a choice...run with his man..or stand the mark. He took the non-running choice leaving Tadhg with two players to cover. It was logistically easy for Davis to run with his man than LRT run past his own man and run to Davis'.

Just to let you know stella that I have reported this post. LRT's involvement in the incident has been mentioned before and dismissed. LRT cannot be said to not read the game and his acts or omiissions cannot cost the side goals (or games as in the first final). His half a dozen possession in the first qtr of the GF was good enough for a medal, an oscar and a Pulitzer prize. On the other hand, Nick Davis in treading a fine line across thin ice. He is only a Zinger burger and a serious injury away from RWO whipping boy status, and will always remain so. His status at the club is the same. LRT is marketing material (if only he was not so weird looking) and a player who cannot be publicly criticised by anyone associated with the club. Until Nick's personality is completely removed and replaced by the ideology of Club Roos, he remains a liability and subject to the odd pubic reprimand - just to remind him of what it is like to be in the 'outer'. Barham's 'no bickhead' policy translates roughly to 'fit in or phuck off'. Nick's not all the way in yet (Schaubs never made it) - LRT has never been anywhere else. Empty minds are the most malleable.

Oh my golly gosh....I thought I was being quite reasonable in that I noted that LRT (a favourite due to the Tasmanian connection)had made an error and Nicky D (a favourite due to Tasmanian connection) was trying to cover for him rather than cover his own man.

Don't tell me for the first time I'm going to actually have an opinion on something rather than just make facile remarks. There's hope for me yet.

is it just me or has there been a huge whining and bitch-fighting on this board since we won the premiership?

something about unity in the face of adversity perhaps?
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

So are we saying that Kirk got it wrong? It should have been LRT that he had words with, then LRT could kick the 4 goals in the last qrtr to win the match.

I just thought it was a bit harsh to blame Davis for the fact that we'd been crap for three quarters and had kicked just 3 goals!

(not to mention that LRT should have run back to cover)

Even harsher considering Davis had around 20 touches to 3/4 time and I thought was one of the Swans best prior to the 4 goal explosion.

I'm not sure that Kirk, in the heat of the moment, running up to Davis and saying "You owe us one" is necessarily hanging, drawing and quartering him. Maybe it was just a last dip, a chance to totally fire up one of the only couple of players in the team capable of pulling a match winning quarter out of his navel.

What a load of old cobblers, claptrap, bull and anything else so needed to describe this pathetic thread.

I think ROK's post was spot on. Taking the Pisz out of a nonsense thread.

Move on folks WE WON THE BLOODY FLAG. How many countless times does a player so called lose his man in any given game. Davis won the game for us, Kirky got his kudos for his 3q time Bloods inspirational speech in the PF and the rest is history.
