No-one has mentioned this one ... I thought it stood out like a sore thumb, so I've gone back to look at it again ... Someone, with a bit of time on their hands or that remembers the passage, let me know if I missed something here ... (maybe I need to read up on the rules)

3rd Quarter, 16:10 on the clock ... Ball is kicked into the Dons F50 ... Lucas and LRT sprint for the ball ... Lucas has LRT in a (almost) bear hug (Arm around his neck, almost fully, definitely above the shoulder) ... It gets ignored, Amon gets in to help out LRT who is obviously being man-handled trying to get to the ball ...

All of a sudden, you have two Swannies and a Bomber on the ground, Lucas gets the free kick, goal ...

I would have expected a holding/high contact free kick to LRT before Amon even gets into the contest ...

Why was that missed (by the umps obviously) and (in our blind oblivion, except all things Lloyd) why hasn't it been brought up here?

I need to know if that is an acceptable passage of play and for the high contact to be ignored as such ...

If this is correct, it's staggering. If you get 4 goals in a game from frees you've had a great run - 7 goals must be close to a record!

          Where did they come from?

          Lloyd - 3.
          Lucas - 1 (or 2?)
          Heffernan - 1 (?).
          Lovett - 1.

            From BigFooty:
Henry Slattery, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Jude Bolton, Sydney, during the third quarter of the Round One match between Essendon and Sydney, played at Telstra Dome on Saturday April 1, 2006.

He can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points toward his future record with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point), in play (no points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, which relates to Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a reprimand. He has no applicable good or bad record. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.
Just because the Umps missed it didn't mean the MRP didn't.

I checked the free kick count half-way thru the 3rd Qtr. It was 23 to 11 to the Dons.

                Conspiracy theory #2

The Umps really do check at 3qtr time and make sure they even things up. We finished up 23 to 18.

That can't be right, they did get 1 free kick in their defensive goal square in the last qrtr.

I was sure that number was right.

I checked afl.com as Channel 10 wasn't showing the free kick count. It was definitely 2 to 1 agst us as I kicked the coffee table and hurt my foot. I remember thinking if it continued it was going to finish about 30 to 15 by final siren.

                      I stand corrected.

I checked the game thread as I was SO mad I posted it at the time.

It was 21 to 11 - bad enough.

(why let the facts get in the way of a good story ) Which means final qtr they paid 7 to 2 in our favour.

that's not inconsisent with the fact that the bombers had (while still doing a fair amount of attack) moved to a more defensive mode of protecting their lead.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

More umpiring fun - knowing the AFL they'll fine us 3 times for daring to have 3 captains.

To add to that, Lucas was paid for a push in the back and the replay at the game clearly showed that no contact was made with his back. LRT was so careful not to touch his back.

I dont take to knocking umpires much these days but after going to the game and reading some of this stuff I am convinced the umps on Saturday have NFI.
