    New version of Cheer Cheer?

I have heard a rumour for those that attended last nights game that as the Swannies ran out, a new version of Cheer Cheer was played and apparently sounded like crap.

Can someone confirm or deny this vicious rumour please!
    Swannies for life!

It did notice a difference, just a more modern version me thinks. Didn't sound that bad. It was much better than the song played after the game.

I'll be sad if they've lost the banjo solo!

It was @@@@house...and no banjo solo.

Also had a few minor changes to the words, either that or the singing was that bad I couldn't understand the words.

On the back of the fixture card, the lyrics now read: "whether the odds be great or small"

          It's what though, damn it!!!

Yeah nah I thought exactly the same thing. It was very manly and deep.
Vicky Pollard: Oh my god I so can't believe you just said that this is like the time I threw Anita's nokia in the canal as a joke and she's like you have well got to buy me another one and I'm like get over it and then Paul came over who's adopted anyway and started saying that I fancy Mark Bennett but oh my god just because I have sex with someone doesn't mean I fancy them.

In Sydney they play this one with this moaning deep voice and a really bad keyboard. I thibnk the one you heard was that one.

I can stomach the words "South go in" if it means we keep the banjo. From memory there is one where they say "Swans go in" with the banjo.

MESSAGE TO SHANE MYLES ET AL AT THE CLUB-can we please have the banjo version bac again & ditch that John Laws singer version?

                JF
PS:- We could always have the dance music version. It is so embarrassing it is actually cult. They go "syyyyyyydney" & "Go the Red & White" on it!

I think the email option, if we all do it could work.

No, it has this annoying synthesized bango refrain in it.

It is very very very embarrassing to listen to. Nearly as bad as that second verse written up by former Kick 11 commentator Dave Warner.

There's a couple of different versions that I know of. When I started going to games in 1997, they had a version that was pretty close, but was a little more synth-ish. If you have a singing teddy bear, it probably plays that one (our one does). Then a few seasons later, we changed to the current banjo version (which sounds like a slightly remastered, redubbed south version). That's my current preference.

There is one that was on the "Swans Songs" CD released around 98/99. THAT one is rank.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Only if your speakers are crummy. Usually dance music goes 'doof doof doof'

Its got a lot to do with the ground and what they have to play.

From memory its always been that no-banjo version. The banjo one is plenty better.

The banjo version is played at the MCG I'm pretty certain, always. Hence it being played at the Grand Final. I have it on MP3 on my computer. You can tell "South" has been cut to put "Swans" in the lyrics. With headphones anyhow.

The version last night was dodgy, though not as bad as the late 80s and early 90s and they kept playing "Up there for Sydney".

Surely Collo can just download a better version from the net. The bloody stadium is sposored by an internet provider after all!
