Shot Clock

Legs Akimbo mentioned this in an earlier thread, and while I didn't see it at the ground my son who saw it on TV said that Lloyd repeatedly took longer than the 30 seconds shown by the shot clock.
Are the umps taking any notice of it? Or is it turned off for Matty L?
If we have a shot clock it should be shown on the big screen.

I think it is something the TV stations do just to see if the new rules are being adhered to.

BTW they don't seem to be policing the OOB deliberately. On numerous ocassion Fletcher double fisted the ball OOb froma marking contest, there was obviously only one intention in his mind, to get it out of bounds, but it was never penalised.

As the game went on they totally ignored the rule. Didn't seem to hurry BBH, LLoyd or anyone else.

Nother one of Kev's lousy rule changes. Keeps the cash register turning over for the little Richmond bleeder. Loves his club though. Not.

Good radio show though.

Could sometimes hear umps calling "thats 20" to the player taking the shot at goal which fit in with the clock ch 10 showed. I've got no problem if the ball hasn't hit the boot at 30 secs as long as the player is in his run up to kick.

I don't get the point of the shot clock. Matthew Lloyd took over 30 seconds to kick his first goal except nothing heppened after that...the umpires just let him kick the goal without penalising him or anything. Why the hell did the AFL enforce the shot clock rule if they weren't going to use it at all?

It's another stupid rule.

Goalkicking is the key feature in the game, hurrying the spearheads is lame.

I always thought watching Lloyd was a drag, but a rule for all bites. Further the very worst is when they line up around 50 metres do all the motions, then pass off a chip pass to a teammate.

Worst of all it appears to have made Lloyd a better kick for goal!

a spoil from a kick is not a deliberate OOB. Defenders are taught to aim for the boundaries, and Fletcher does it as well as any of them.

If they are aiming for the boundary line that is deliberate. There are always some spoils that will go OOB, but when you are punching with a double fist aiming at the boundary and it goes out then how can that not be deliberate?

I don't mind if they've ignored the rule as long as they're consistent with it. I hate when they favour somebody like Matty L and become strict with somebody else. We'll be watching the umps!

If this rule is going to be successful, then we need to have a physical shot clock displayed on the board to stamp out its inconsistencies.
