    Nick Davis - Downlow

A couple of weeks ago the Sunday Age did a two page article on Nick Davis. The article was about Davis turning the corner last year and realising that he was wasting his talents up to the end of 2004 ra ra ra ra.....

Davis went to say that if he was committed all these years he could have had a couple of Brownlows to his name with his talents and he believes he could win a Brownlow in the next couple of years if he keeps up the same commitment !!!

I think Nicky boy meant winning the DOWNLOW on Brownlow night if his insipid last half on Saturday night was anything to go by !!

Davis had 19 disposals and 8 marks for the game, 11/6 in the second half. Apart from dropping some contested marks I don't really see what the big problem was with his second half?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Everyone is entitled to a poor game. Davis is just off to a slow start like many other out there that night.

Disposals that went to the opposition. Lazy, selfish, uncommitted to the team cause and dropped crucial marks when it counted is some of the reasons for my annoyance at Davis' game and his opinion of his abilities.

Did anyone notice Walls trying to make an issue of Davis calling for the ball and not getting it?

Replay was shown repeatedly and he kept saying it, but all it showed was a bloke calling for the ball and not getting it. There was no visible remunstration (spelling) toward teammatesas the commentary tried to suggest.

Happens in a game hundreds of times.

Dare I suggest commentators might try to 'beat up' a non-incident....

I don't think Davis had a poor game. I thought he was one of our better players. Had 19 possessions and most of them were pretty constructive. Wasn't one of his best games by a long way, but far from our worst.

I waited for the Richo-style dummy spit but they never got to it. Walls is a moron though so no surprise there.

Well he should shut the @@@@ up about winning Brownlows this year onwards if he is entitled to a poor game and slow start to the season.

Actually in the replay you could see Davis waving his arms at Williams after Essendon had cleared the ball. However, you can understand the frustration - he is free yet Williams kicked it to O'Loughlin who was covered and well beaten by Fletcher.

How many of his disposals went to the opposition? Do any of the Melbournites have clanger stats from the print version of the Hun?
The delivery for those contested F50 marks was rubbish, two he had to slow down for and one he had to stop and prop.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

I really took it as calling for people to look for all the options when coming forward more than bitching that he didn't get a touch himself. The best thing about Davis in the midfield is that he really does appear to assess all options instead of taking the first available.

The thing that really had me chuckling was 5 minutes later when Hall played on and hit the post there was general agreement in the commentary box that it was correct for O'Loughlin to make sure that he lets Hall know he was free and he should have gone to him.

That, and he is such a good kick. Some of his delivery from half back was excellent. Long and precise kicking.

I actually yelled at the teev for Willo to kick it to Davis. Maybe Walls was talking about my frustration?

Davo had down right good reason to be filthy with Willo in that instance.
