How will you react when they raise the Premiership Flag on Sunday?

Me? I don't know how I will react on Sunday. I'll be out on the banner no doubt, so probably won't want to display too much emotion in the full view of everyone.

I will think of the hard times this club has had. I will think of the crap you always used to cop for being a Swans & 'GayFL' fan. Of the meeting of the 12 VFL CEOs to see whether they should pull the pull on the Swans back in 1991.

I will think of the Edelsten days when a day watching the Swans was akin to watching "Its a Knockout". The Swannettes in their feathers, "Show em Sydney" after goals, giant monsters & motor cars & everything driving around the field at half time, the big crowds we got the. The whole razzamattaz & glam of everything! I will then think of how short that false dawn really was. And how the club was sold to the VFL for $10.

I will think of what it was like to expect to lose each week, & of the undescribable joy we experienced in 1993 when we beat Melbourne after 27 losses in a row. I will think of a troubled child who only grew under the almost fatherly love of one Ronald Dale Barassi.

I will think of the long away trips in buses & planes to support my team. Trips then more often than not led to dispair frustration & stress. Standing in the rain all alone outside Football Park fighting off tears watching my bundle of 20 flags fall into a mud puddle against Port. Chucking a sickie from work to ensure a banner was in Adelaide then bolting onto a plane to see a game against the Crows. Then seeing us get absolutely murdered in the first half.

I will think of when I hitched to Melbourne for the St Kilda game at Waverley in 1996, being dropped off at the Wagga turn-off, walking 18 km to the next town then collapsing at a servo, before waiting for 4 hours for the Cheer Squad bus to pick us up.

I will think of getting a police escort out of Football Park after the Port final in 2003.

I will think of the massive come back against Brisbane that set the standard for the year 2005-that of the last quarter come-back.

I will think of the car trips south with "Air Hately". Of 4am starts from his place at Glendenning. Of arriving at Waikerie in SA at 530pm the same day. Of arriving at the MCG & Carlton just before the first bounce with little or no sleep. Of driving off from the town of Balranald WITHOUT Boofhead only to get a desperate phone call from said person that he actualy wasn't in the car. I will think of the dopey grin he gave when we came back to get him.

I will think of watching games in 38 degree temps in Wagga or 1 degree temps at Waverley. Of sitting through downpours in Sydney Melbourne Brisbane Adelaide & Perth just to support my team. Of driving through a thick snowfall in Yass when we played Geelong in 2004.

On Sunday I might think of all of these things. I might think of none of them.

How will you react when that flag gets raised on Sunday?

I will applaud as per existing standards for behinds
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

PS:- I might have access to a bloody whopping one on Sunday if the Wollongong Wolves boys rock up on Sunday. Can you imagine how petrified the old fossils in the O"Reilly will be when I start it up!

Re: How will you react when they raise the Premiership Flag on Sunday?

Fricken hell, that's commitment JF. You deserve to gloat in the Swans 2005 flag raising after all that effort over the years. It would have driven most people to insanity.

Actually, you are insane - we all are - for putting up with the trials and tribulations of the Swans over the years. No person in there right mind would or should have gone through the range of emotions Swans fans have gone through.

I will be a very proud and tired Swans supporter on Sunday afternoon in front of the box. Proud because of the years and years of waiting, hoping, praying, pleading for the starts to align and the Swans to be successful on (and off) the field culminating in a flag. Tired because I am in the support crew for 48 hours without much sleep of my silly billy partner's Oxfam 100km walk team that starts on Friday morning and finishes on Sunday morning......
Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looks like a girlfriend,That I had in February of last year, It's not confidential, I've got potential

Somebody told me, The Killers, Hot Fuss, 2004.

I dare say I'll shed a tear. I did on Saturday night watching the package ten put together leading into the game. I'll be proud as always to call Sydney home. And just as proud of the club.

Whether you've been through the things JF and no doubt Pete and many others have or were able to experience a premiership in your first year following the team I hope you enjoy and relish the experience. I hope it's certainly something I wont forget for a while.

I was at the gabba for game one in 2004 when the Lions unfurled their latest flag (all three hanging side by side) and had goose bumps at seeing that. Yeah definitely a tear or two for me on Sunday.
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
              We need
              Love and peace

voted: I will more than likely shed a tear & think of when the club nearly died in 1992.... and maybe shed a tear for what our club has done to JF over the years.....

In reality tho, i think I will be lost in the memories of the GF. I can remember feeling the purest of joys when i realised we had won. I remember the joy of standing on my seat, in the heart of the Wet Toast cheer squad and screaming "get that f#%king up ya!"

I will remember the joy of watching the boys run out onto the G, how i was on the edge of my seat for the next 3 hours, screaming for my team.

I will think of the joy of hearing Roosy say "HERE IT IS!" (does anyone else get tingles down their spine when they hear him say it on the TV ads?).

I will think of the hours of joy at punt road after the game, waiting for the team to arrive, with 5000 odd people wearing the same stoopid grin as me.

Followed by the joy of seeing MY TEAM up on stage, medals around their necks, presenting The Cup to their humble supporters like me.

I will think of the joy of the Club Champion dinner and lifting the 2006 Toyata AFL Premiership Cup with Paul Roos. One of the happiest moments of my LIFE!

Then getting my girlfriend Alicia up on stage while one of Roosy's mates took a pic of us with The Cup.

I will remember the joy of standing on George Street, watching the sky turn red n white as we honoured the swans on their return home. How proud i was that this city had finally embraced this great team.

Basically, as i watch the flag unfurl, i will remember all the good memories the swannies have given me over the years. They lost the 1996 GF on my 20th birthday, which was like a knife thru my heart at the time, but thats not what i will be thinking about come sunday. why bother to remember the tears shed over spilt milk? Some of the happiest moments of my life have been given to me by the Swans, and those are the things i will be thinking about on Sunday.

Im sure that i will shed a tear or two, but Im also sure that they will be tears of joy.

I expect to shed a tear! Hopefully not as many as I did when we actually won though! I think when that flag goes up, THAT'S when it'll hit home that we really did win it!

I think I'll be a bit like that. This is my 38th year as a Swans supporter, I'm in the "I never thought it would ever happen" camp. When we won I wept, just reading this thread is getting me a bit emotional...Sunday, we'll be there, I wouldn't miss it for the world. Travelling to see in-laws in Canberra on Friday, Saturday drive to the sister in laws place about 5 kms from the SCG, then go to the game on Sunday.

                        8) I will well up and shed a tear for old times sake as I roar abusive vitriol at Greg Stafford and Stefan Carey and question their sexuality and parentage as well as chucking peas in their direction

                        10) I will play Air Banjo to 'Cheer cheer'

I will pay homage to the Swans premiership side of '33, none of whom are alive to see the fourth flag raised in glory.

I will think of the hundreds of former players who played in the red and white without playing in a premiership side. It matters not if they are champions like Skilton and Kelly or the many one-game wonders, all played their part no matter how humble.

I will think of the many Swans fans who died without ever seeing a premiership.

I will think of the dark times and the happy times.

I will remember the big wins and the big losses. I will remember watching the Swans beat Essendon by 163 points on TV and losing to Hawthorn by 85 points in the last game at Waverley while sitting behind the Hawthorn cheer squad.

I will remember hearing for the first time that South Melbourne were in dire trouble in 1981 and how we became the Sydney Swans in 1982. I will remember the joy of the third quarter in round 13, 1993 after 13 months of losses. I will remember the gloom in the last quarter of the 1996 season and Kangaroos fans chanting "we are the champions".

Above all, I will remember that never have so many suffered for so long before experiencing the intense joy of victory on the last Saturday in September.

For I am a fan of the Swans and will be forever loyal.

                              Sic advenit gloria cygnorum.
