First 2nds game I've seen since the Port Melbourne days.

Spriggs was very good - probably 2nd B.O.G.

Malceski needs to be in the ones next week - he is too good for that level - B.O.G.

Shaw is OK - probably better than Chambers IMHO but is very raw. Ericksen lasted about 10 minutes into the first 1/4.

Lots of good players - but the bloke who caught my eye was Barlow - 6'3 and is VERY good below the knees - quick and skilled - wich he wasnt a rookie - he's one to keep an eye on.

Moore was good and Willoughby impressed. A terrible standard of footy though.....cant learn much when you kick 11 in the last 1/4.

Was it just me or did Moore seem aggressive today?

He really put in a couple of shoves and that one some players.
      Didnt hold back.

And I agree with you liz on your ratings of the guys.

At one stage Willoughby and Shaw were on the bench for quite a while which was surprising. Willoughby still managed to make an impact though

Spriggs was awesome at Geelong, something the those beyond the Murray never saw. Super fit and okay, his knee injury on the beach at Geelong has set him back, he could still become a serviceable pinch-hitter, if the current senior form subsides.

But seriously guys, that Canberra league is freakin' joke. Really. Bad for development with other teams having the WAFL, VFL and SANFL to play in. Not worthy of a farm-league to the Bloods.

I rue the day they broke ties with Port Melbourne. The regulars who played at Port are now mainstays and premiership players. Kennelly started there, Schneider, Fosdike, Buchanan to name a few. Tougher league the VFL and better results.

Yep, I agree 100% - don't forget O'Keefe and even LRT - the difference in pressure is incredible. I mean, the Swans kicked 11 in the last qtr and probably could have kicked 13-14 - its a joke.

                How good was Simon Phillips!!

He looked as though he was reading the play really well and also from where we were sitting seemed to have a bit of leadership quality as well.

Really looking forward to seeing him develop into a reliable senior player.

I've submitted a match report which hopefully should appear soon.

I think the official scorers robbed Malceski of a goal. According to my count he kicked 5 goals.

                  Just some quick thoughts:
Malceski - wow, what a game. looked in total command and he knew it too.
Spriggs - good game despite a few misplaced kicks.
Phillips - so that's what a small forward looks like. he reads the play so well and for his size is a good mark.
Laidlaw - super quick and a long kikc as well.
Vogels - beaten early and didn't see him after the 3rd quarter.

I've said this ever since we joined the Canberra league...it leaves the club at an incredible disadvantage compared to other teams. The Canberra league is probably not even a sixth rate league, behind the vfl, sanfl, wafl, the TAC, not to mention the Territory or Tassie leagues which would all be of a higher standard.

It's a real problem: If you want to be a Pete Sampras you don't get better playing all your tennis at the Yakendanderra Tennis Club, you only get to be best by performing against the better players around.
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

I also assumed that the ACTFL would impede the developemnt of our players, but then Mrs Ruckman asked what percentage of the Swans playing/training time was devoted to the game each week?
The Swans are professional footballers who spend their working week training/recovering/practicing etc. etc. . . . but they only spend about 2 hours a week playing, so the answer to her question was "Probably under 10%"
Because I'm an older person I still hang onto the belief that actual match practice is the most important part of player development ~ but it makes you think.

Willoughby must play this year. It's a good sign that he was impressive considering he's missed all of the preseason.

Agree with comments on Malceski. If he doesn't play this week then there should be an inquiry. Roosy needs to stop playing favourites and give some of these young guys a chance.

Like when he had faith in Bevo and LRT and that faith continued when they slipped and everyone bagged him then?

Can't have it both ways. Roos will know the right time to bring the youngins into play.
