"The Swans have a bye next week"....
thats helpful.
Can I ask my fellow RWO forumers - can anyone name one player that has played regularly in the Seniors that DIDN'T play at Port Melbourne?
I know its only 2 years but jeez the standard is about a good country league in Victoria.Comment

This is the 4th year. Sydney did not make the finals in the first 2. The competition does not start for another fortnight. This game was brought forward so as there could be a curtain raiser. The QBN boys were at least 2 weeks underdone, not that any of them are full time footballers.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Yep, good on the QBN lads - they tried bloody hard and no.1 the FF was pretty good - would be handy at most sides but they are nowhere near VFL standard. I dont expect 'em to be, as you say they are part timers. I am not saying this to disparage the ACTAFL but more about the need for our young blokes to be really tested.Comment

They kicked 2 goals in the first qtr so doesnt give em much after that.
I wouldnt have called it a contest after the first 15-20 minutes.Comment

I do think it made it look worse than it was, we scored around 70 points in the final quarter. The porn lads had a go early on.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Dempster - not totally established but maybe on his way.
McVeigh and Malceski are two others who wouldn't have seen Port Melbourne action, though neither has yet established himself at senior level.
Not sure we can draw any definite conclusions yet because since we started participating in the ACT competition, the depth of the squad hasn't really been tested. The fact that we don't have a raft of players coming through from tthe reserves can be attributed as much to the form and health of the premiership side as to a lack of development of the youngsters.Comment

Paul Bevan - I know he seemed to go backwards last year, but that isn't uncommon and it's too soon to tell whether he will really "make it". He did finish 4th in the RS in his debut season.

Look at Willoughby and Schmidt and to a lesser extent, Davis - they will struggle to adapt to AFL seniors. The difference is pressure and fitness cant really get around it.
Earl Shaw is a guy who would benefit greatly from playing in the VFL against good ruckmen - sadly he plays against fellas who are 2 inches shorter and nowhere near as fit.Comment
