Yeah, I see your point mate. I thought you meant "we" as a team suffering pain for playing LRT. My response to that was the pain lead to a premiership. I take your point mate!

Call me kuh-razy, but people seem to be getting overexcited.

At the time Chambers was drafted, we weren't sure if he was 2nd or 3rd in queue among our ruckmen. Well, now we know. Doyle in mediocre form is clearly better than Chambers. So Chambers is just a backup ruckman employed while our 2nd ruckman is out injured; and (inshallah) that 2nd ruckman will be back in a couple of weeks.

As every other team with injured big men knows-- your best ain't available, you scrounge around and use what you can to stay competitive. Trying to suddenly make LRT into a ruckman now that he's got the hang of CHB, would be insane; and there is good reason for the club's reluctance to play Goodes as a specialist ruck. So Chambers it is. And Roos is half-right, in the sense that if he provides a contest at the centre bounces and ball-ups around the ground (and does absolutely nothing else apart from denying his direct opponent free possessions), that's the best realistic result we could expect.

On current form, he was unlikely to be worth pick 35, but there's nothing we can do about that now, and on the 'give big men time' principle he'll probably have a couple of years to prove us wrong. Whether he'll improve if playing in Canberra is his problem: he currently ain't in our best 22 players if all are fit; nor is he young or potential-filled enough to get selected as a 'project player'.

I can't imagine that Sydney would even consider playing 3 ruckmen once Doyle is fit. So it's only if he gets selected over a fit Doyle, that I'll start worrying.

(Whether Doyle is too injury-prone to have a long-term future, and how fast Ericksen and Shaw will come on, are issues to be resolved by the end of 2006 or later; they're not week-by-week selection issues.)

Had an interesting conversation with a fellow a few days ago who presented himself as being an official part (albeit minor) of the club . . .
According to him Chambers has been a disappointment, Doyle is a crock, Goodes drops his head too much to go into the ruck, and when I asked about Young Earl he claimed that Ted Richards is being prepared as a relieving ruckman!
Now I must admit to having considerable doubt about the fellow,
some of his comments seem unlikely and his tone reminded me more of RWO than Roosy . . . . . however we shall see what unfolds.

For all the carry-on about Torture, the scenario the Bulldogs face ATM might bring us all a bit of a reality check.

Rocket has lost the use of his number 1 ruckman in Darcy for the season, has lost his number 2 in Minson for a number of weeks, and his 3rd/4th in line in Morgan for even longer. Add to that that his new recruits in Williams and Walsh are out for the season, and he is left with his project player in Skipper and the unco Peter Street to carry the burden. Yet they are 3-0 and full of confidence.

This team was never built on talent, and we have carried a large portion of the team on will and perseverance alone. Players like Bevan, LRT, Mathews and even Kirk have had the opportunity to shine despite questionable skills, and there is no reason not to give Torture a run using the same principle.

I maintain that he needs to be given his 40-45min of ground time in at least 50-60% of the games this year, then a fair pre-season, and another shot next year before he can be properly assessed. At his age and his role, he really has time on his side despite some of the knee-jerk reactions of some fans on this site.

My spin on this is that if all of the "experts" on here actually knew what they were talking about Roos would have them on staff. We are all entitled to an opinion, but we are meant to support our team and be above some of the other feral supporters in the league.

How long will it take before I am tarred and feathered by the experts?

You would think that as a group of supporters that had to wait 72 years for a flag, we would have more patience than 3 games!!

I think the main reason he has copped so much is that he wasn't just drafted - he had a few seasons of senior experience and we traded for him - you would think we would be getting a little more out of a player with senior experience that we traded for.
