    Cheer Squad?

Come on guys we can do better than this! A CS is meant to MOTIVATE the team - to get the whole crowd behind them when they need it most. Waving your flags and cheering only when a goal is kicked is not enough.

We're being out sung by the visitors every week. We all need to be much louder. All we've got is a guy standing up and banging a drum - and he gets a great response! Imaging the response from the whole park if the whole CS were to burst into song. And lets get original - at the moment we have 2 songs, both with one word and both being the same word. We can do better than "Sydney - (clap clap clap)". We need short and simple funny songs singling out players for worship and praising the whole team. Songs that the whole crowd (men, woman and kids) can easily learn and scream when our boys on the paddock need a lift.

So come on guys, lets get some ideas down for some simple chants that will turn every Swans game into a theatre of noise and passion that will see our heroes in the red and the white get fired up each and every time!!

There wasa group of boys sitting next to us and to the tune of 'Ole Ole Ole Ole', they sang 'Amon, Amon Amon Amon' when he got that goal.

Simple, anyone can sing it & does that singling out player thing you mentioned. I liked it.

        That's the spirit!!!

Don't worry about the CS being sensitive. Don't get me wrong, they need to lead by example - but the WHOLE crowd needs to put in just as much effort - the CS can't do it alone. Look at it this way, we sold 30,000 memberships this year. That's 3/4 of the SCG who are loyal Swannies. But at the moment it's 30,000 silent spectators. Any player will tell you how hugely important your fans are in geeing you up.

Love the ideas - everyone keep em coming. What I'd love to do is get a few of the best and print 'em up to hand around on match day to get things started. But we need some to choose from first - we'll see how we go I guess.

        My contribution so far:

(to the tune of Hey Baby)
        Heeeeeey, Leaping Leo! Ooo! Aah!!
I wanna knooooooow - how you took that mark!

Or (not sure what tune is - hard to hum on a forum):
        He's big! He's Red!
        He's got a baldy head!
        Bazzah Hall! Bazzah Hall!

Money-> WHERE MOUTH IS or STFU.

It is very easy to dish out criticism. But it is getting involved and making atmosphere YOURSELF that is the key.

There was a guy up in the Churchill Stand upstairs above us getting up and leading chants HIMSELF. He should be applauded for this, as it makes my job a hell of a lot easier.

But hey, if you are unhappy with the Cheer Squad, don't bitch about it here, TELL THE CLUB you are unhappy yourself. It is your right as a club member to do so.

Sydney people are big at dishing out the criticism. But when asked to put their money where their mouths are, in 90% of occasions they decide this does not suit their own personal social lives.

I'd love to have a few of us sit down with the club and nut out a mid to long term strategy that will not only hopefully re-market the concept of being in a Cheer Squad but the advantages of being 'involved'.

There is a lot more I could stay but I won't. I tried bringing people in to fill up the numbers & was told off for doing so. What can I do if this is the case?

I'm doing my best. Hardly have a voice today at work at all (& I work on the phone). It is not good enough for some of you, I'm sorry. I could do little better than what I did yesterday.

Mate putting my money where my mouth is is exactly what I'm trying to do here. As for yesterday - I can't speak today either. I was screaming with the best of them. We're in the same boat.

I'm not having a go at the cheer squad. I've said before and I'll say again - the WHOLE CROWD needs to step up. You (the CS) can't do it alone. I applaud the guy in the churchill stand, and the guy in the CS with his drum, and the kid behind the dug out facing the crowd and getting them fired up. All of them great.

We all want the same thing - to see the Swans win every time - plane and simple. What I'm trying to do here is be constructive and get some ideas happening. I'm trying to help the CS out. Let's not bitch at each other, lets get on with the ideas that will see the boys' flat periods turned into spells where goals are kicked.

It seems you want the crowd fired up as well. So how about giving us an idea for a song.

Are you a member of the cheer squad? We need more members in the Sydney based sqaud, why don't you join them and take some of your mates, and put your words into action!!!!

It must be quite confusing for the players on Anzac Day when there's equal support for both teams, therefore equal noise.
Sit down or i swear to God i'll have you shot.

I'm not but I'd love to. How does it work when you've already got a ticket for another bay though? Let me know what I need to do.

But I would like to say this again - I'm trying to find a way to gee up the whole fan base. The CS do a great job of making noise - but it only affects their bay. How do we stimulate the other bays to do the same? Every bay should be a CS bay. The idea of having a designated "this is where we put the fans who want to actually cheer on their team" section turns me off. Everyone should be cheering them on. In every bay. And with just as much passion as bay 22.
