Buchanan does not have the dynamic skill of Skilton or Kelly...but if he continues to improve this year I think it would be a good call.

As I've said before, I'd rather the club just gave it to a new draftee instead of making such a big deal out of it.

There will only ever be one Skilton and one Kelly.

I wish they would hurry up, or I may have to do a Lucky Knickers and change may name.

No current player should get it. Leave it for a new draftee whos embodies Skilton's skill and class and Kelly's leadership and courage.

Seriously, I expect it will held back until it can be given to one of Paul Roos' kids.

Agree entirely. It's just a number. There's been plenty of duds where it over the years too, just like any other number.

Can't buy the idea that this is just a number...it has been doubly blessed with 2 of our greatest ever players. I can go along with it being given to an exceptional draft pick with Judd / Hodge potential...otherwise as a special reward for captains or other special players with at least a fair bit of Skilts / Kel.

Yes it is only a number. Just give it to someone.

So in other words retire it permanently...

The #14 should be retired permanently.

Not just with the Swans, but with every other team out of respect for the Swans players who wore it.

I also suggest that the number 14 be removed from our language, much like some countries do not have a floor 13 in buildings (I bet that was because there was some magical Chinese local sports player)

                      My house is number 13.
Tonight I am going to the crazy ladys house ( my neighbor) and remove #14 from her letterbox out of respect for Paul Kelly.

I also think Paul Kelly (the singer) should change his name.
It's just plain wrong that there could be 2 of them.

FFS, it's just a number people.
For mine, the Swans are removing all the magic from it by keeping it in retirement for more than 1 year.......

Exactly, though I do think the letter box idea has some merit.

Give it to a kid from next draft. No matter who wears it it will not detract from history. Skilton and Kelly are icons and will always be so.

                            Didn't I read this post in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Only applies to me on the topic of Leo Barry......sorry Paul Bevan also.
