    SCG or Telstra Stadium?

Watching the swannies this year and looking at our results.
When you think about it, we outplayed played the bombers for 3/4's of the match at the dome,
played ok yet still won against the blues at the dome..
HAd a shocker at the SCG..Port really cramped us up.
Demons we played ok, but again the dees really strangled our style.
With the Cats at Telstra we played great, but not refined footy but with passages of exceptional play.

SO it begs the question. Which ground is now suited to the style of game the swans play or need to play.
    SCG or Telstra

Personally, i think we will do better on telstra and on the bigger grounds in Melbourne than we will at the SCG.

    Where's the ROK option?

I think there is little question that a larger ground gives us more space to run into and allows us to pull off those risky handballs that we usually do.

The SCG is too crampt and players are basically on top of each other. This does not allow the Swans to play their running style at their best.

A team like the Bulldogs may struggle on the SCG when we play them however, due to their style of play.

Style of play definitely looked better at Telstra, not sure if that was just a overall performance or a case of more room, and not being bottled by the smaller confines of the SCG.

I think part of the current attraction of Telstra Stadium is the "Big Event" feel it tends to bring. Only 3 games played, a huge stadium with food stalls etc outside before the game. I suspect it would lose some of that appeal if we played most or all of our home games there.

Having said that, I certainly enjoy watching at Telstra and maybe 5 games would be a better balance.

While we seem to play a better style of football at the Olympic Stadium, from my opinion it is @@@@. I cannot stand it, the beer is crap, the view pathetic and of course you have the whole after game function issue. Of course there is also the problem that you cannot buy a beer in the fourth quarter.

At least they have Villis pies at the footy...that alone gives Telstra a big advantage over the SCG!!

True I do miss my Villies - but due to the fact of no VB minus several 100 points. And the SCG have made up for the lack of quality pies by having sausages on a roll available in the Noble Stand at a decent price

Then sit somewhere where the view is better; my view is excellent. As for the beer, think ahead and buy it at 3/4 time. For me, Telstra Stadium is much better and I hope they increase to 5 games a year there in 2007.

We play better footy at Telstra Stadium.

SCG too small for an AFL ground.

The Olympic Stadium suits me a lot for getting to and from but I still favour a "less is more" approach for this venue. Swans are building a very strong win percentage at this ground which can help for finals (even though we didn't play Geelong there in last year's semi because of NRL clash). I like the fact that you can walk around the ground and see people who you might not otherwise catch up with (at the SCG I'm restricted to the MA Noble area). Had a chat with the cheer squad people-well done JF and others, you were great, despite your lower numbers .......BTW Simon from Tassie, you're a legend!!! Stadium Oz is good but, I think the formula at the mo is just about right.....maybe one extra game??

....or (c) Croke Park as long as ROK is playing

I'm not sentimental about the SCG at all. My list of complaints with that venue increases weekly.

NO COLLARED JACKETS got added to the list recently. They're quite happy to wreck a family day out that place.

Anyhoo, yes our style of play is suited to a ground that can accomodate a genuine CHF. Hence Baz and ROK had blinders.

In fact the forward line (apart from some missed shots on goal) were back to their functional best.

Baz, ROK and Mick were all bringing everything down including the house at some stages there. Was out of my seat a bunch of times high 5ing etc.

I personally think with the direct style of play that we used on Saturday night, we would indeed have beaten the Cats at the SCG too.

I find the view pretty average no matter where you are for Swans memebrs. Also where can I find a similar seat to the Noble Stand, upstairs, close to the ground and right behind the goalposts. Sorry this seat does not exist at the Olympic Stadium.

As much as the beer is pig swill, it is just plain wrong to buy two or three beers (they will go warm), I should be able to buy them at any time upto the end of the game, I have been there the bar is closed and there is still 20-25 minutes to go, they seem to think that a 20 minute quarter is a real time 20 minutes.

Also location - OK I am an inner city snob, but I really donot like travelling to Homebush Bay, the only decent pub is 20 minutes away (Concord West Hotel) and trying to have a few quiet beers with mates before heading home is now out of the question.

You don't see them moving AFL out of the MCG to some reconditioned industrial dump in Melbourne.

Granted the SCG could be (and should be) improved. New seating, with improved capacity and facilities should be built. Imaging the atmosphere (and I do find the atmosphere at Olympic Park not that great even with the gretaer numbers) at the SCG if we could get 50-55k in there.
