Telstra or SCG (the definitive poll)

Live on the North side of Sydney, travelling wise is much of muchness allowing for a direct train service from Strathfield to OP, if not Strathfield-Lidcombe-OP, which is a pain in the proverbial.
Atmosphere inside the ground, Telstra with the higher ground capacity, while not close and intimate like the SCG, the sound really echos around Telstra.
Before/After the game SCG, Telstra you have the brewrey or Maccas..hmmm what a choice

I always suspected we had trouble winning on big grounds in Melbourne when it counted in September for many years which was obviously smashed with those 2 wins last year. That is why I lean towards Telstra as I believed it had a bigger surface area and is longer vs the SCG.

Is that theory correct and if it is I think that playing there the last few years was another huge factor for the last years success.

Having said that I love the atmosphere of the SCG and the bars round the ground.

IMO Telstra is great for the development of our football club - allows for a better style of flowing football, and opens us up to more supporters across Sydney.

Would still like to see us remain based for half or most games at the SCG, but ideally would like to see the ground extended... They could probably only do this by knocking down the Churchill, so not gunna happen any time soon.

Did you like how Telstra Stadium wasn't letting people out at half time on Saturday, (you could get out but they wouldn't let you back in) this forced me to eat and drink what they had on sale and preventing us to go purchase from the foodstalls set-up outside. Nice one.

The stadium is in finacial woes and it pains me every time I go there. Except when I occasionly get to go to the Telstra Members seating, now that is a different planet. More chatting and chardonay than footy fans though.

I sit in Aisle 103 at Telstra. No one around where I sit can see most of the wing during the game. This is due to the moving back of the seat blocks. (we sit in the area not moved back - about level with the 50 metre mark) I have moved 3 times in the 6 years I have been a member and still can't get decent seats. I rang the swans office to complain and the woman said that her parents sat near us and they didn't mind not being able to see the whole field!
I got great seats for the semi year before last and tried to get them as my permanent seats. I couldn't get them because according to the swans office, the seats I wanted were cheaper and therefore I was not eligible for them.
There are 10 of us who sit together at the SCG and Telstra (I have introduced them all as new members) and we are all really sick of not being able to see the game.
On another note, the screens are not as good as at the SCG.

Hey don't EVER think of going to the Superdome then mate. I went to a Razorbacks-Pigs derby and was told to either confiscate my Mcdonalds or stay outside. Being a Micky Ds connoisseur, I protested by sitting outside the venue evening to the point of chewing all the ice cubes in my drink just to make security feel like bastards. This season I didn't get there in time; the chips I bought for $5 odd were so salty they were near on inedible.

Telstra Stadium is not the only ground that stops you leaving the ground at half time. Have you ever asked for a pass-out at the SCG. They look at you as if you are a complete murderor.

Meanwhile at Footbal Park the Dome G and Subi going outside at half-time with a pass-out is a given.

Why do we not have it at all at NSW grounds?!!!

I'm not sure but is it because those grounds do not allow smoking anywhere inside the ground where Telstra and SCG have designated areas inside the ground.

Last time I was at gods ground, the MCG, albiet a few years ago we had to leave the ground and smoke out side. No dramas getting back in then.

At Telstra at gate G the smoking area is also shared with a furious kick to kick session I got hit in the eye by a mini footy on Saturday, all in good fun.

Let's face it the SCG is the laughing stock of the AFL.

It is small and outdated and pr*ck to get to/from. They have also re-routed the traffic directions through Centennial Park which makes it an even bigger pain to leave.
What's more, they can't even train on the bloody ground when cricket season is on!! What a joke.

Telstra has the train going right up to it, the ground is a better size, and you don't get caught behind those crappy player boxes that they have at the SCG. It's modern, it's good.

FWIW I live in the Hills district.
I don't mind driving to the SCG, just the bunfight that happens when you get there and the general ugliness of the stands.

I vote Telstra - but I would not say the facilities are second too none - Telstra Dome & the MCG ground facilities are the top notch, makes TS look a bit ordinary. Having said that I feel though that TS surface suits the players better giving them much more space - and if they play better on a bigger ground (like everyone else) then why not play there permanently.

Parking is also better out there - or getting public t'port, the only thing wrong with it is that there is nothing there other than the pub and that gets way too packed for me.

I live at Bonnet Bay - really doesnt faze me now as far as travelling goes.

Telstra is definitely better, much prefer the larger playing area. We've outgrown the SCG. I reckon the atmosphere at the SCG is over-rated, apart from the Geelong SF game last year but it would probably have been as good at Telstra.

Both venues are equally as inconvenient for me to get to as I live in Dee Why. Have to try and park in P3 at Telstra as it is the only one where they don't filter me out to Parramatta Road.

Thought the atmosphere at TS on Saturday was good, even better than most of the SCG games.

I live up at Narrabeen, so both are a trek for me!

In terms of driving the SCG is better because you can park at Surry Hills and walk. With Telstra you have to park at Lidcombe, pray your car doesn't get smashed, and then catch a train.

Telstra is better for night games, whilst I enjoy the Sunday afternoon matches at SCG. Day games don't seem to work as well at Telstra - the atmosphere at game v Brisbane last year was pretty flat.

The SCG is in dire need of a makover, as others have said. The seating on the Hill is pretty hopeless and the facilities are worse. Last year I had the misfortune of sitting in the Doug Walters stand for a match - that area is the worst excuse for a stadium stand I have ever seen.

I reckon it's more likely to get damaged at Surry Hills than Lidcombe. The city sucks, especially that feral area.

Lidcombe's great for parking. There is a whole area just near the railway bridge (about 150m walk from the station) with heaps of spots - and it's FREE!
