I have to agree with Liz - Tadhg has shown his importance to our side recently, but he is not the second most important player.

I would put Goodes at #2. He is a player that opposition teams just cannot deal with. His sheer versatility, combined with skill level must put him up there.

I thought he was BoG on Sunday, and his form is really stepping up towards his best. I'm expecting big things from him for the rest of the season!

After Hall, I think you'd be hard pressed to name an order. I think we did this once of twice before.

Hall is clearly far and away #1.

After him there is an important group of Goodes, Kirk, both Boltons, Barry, Crouch, Jolly, Kennelly, which could be probably split into two, but no further than that.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Bloods, what's your opinion about Willo's & Micky's status in the team?

I personally would've pout Willo in there.

Katie, my two cents worth is that you can really only tell a player's worth when he's missing. You can see the drive from defence improve dramatically this year since Tiger's return. Similarly, when Willo went missing with his broken collarbone last year we lost a lot of drive through the midfield.

In recent times, we have never had to deal with the long-term absence of Baz and I hope we never have to rejig the team structure because he's injured.

Nick D coming back (soon?) will be invaluable (I hope!) to balnce the cureent woeful goal:behind ratio.

Agreed! The whole "you don't know what you have until you lose it" thing. Like Nick said, it's hard to rank the other players after Hall - they all can play different roles in different matches to have different levels of importance etc - you can throw Goodsey into the ruck, or have him running free or have him on someone. You can put Willow as a tagger or a free runner through the midfield. Even Tadhg, you could throw him into the centre for a bit of run, or use him to run a less-mobile forward ragged for a bit as opposed to his standard HB possie.

One thing, it's been pointed out elsewhere, under the "you don't know what you've got" theory, did we really miss Mathews that much on Sunday? (No I don't want it to become a Mathews bashing/praising session, just asking the question!)

Yeah, I think he should be somewhere there. Possibly Davis too.

Willo has been immensely important to our midfield for years now, although I think that is becoming less so as he gets older.

              Unsure about MOL.

On Sunday's performance alone you would have to question MOL's importance. But the round before I was very happy with his movement up the ground and general mobility.

If he can keep reproducing that form in phases through games, rotated with Nicky D perhaps, I think that could cause opposition teams real problems.

Agree....we would be lost without hall in the forward line, heaven forbid if he ever got a serious injury!!

MOL is not in top form, he still has skill and flashes of brilliance but you can't rely on him to deliver game after game.

@ Jeffers, can you please edit the title of this thread. You should know better by now

Could make an argument for another two or three players too.

I'm a huge fan of Kennelly and I think he is pretty important to the structure. I just don't think he's the second most important.
But I think you could cover the loss of Kirk or Jude. Goodes and Irish would be a lot harder to replace.
I actually feel Irish playing his absolute best is better than either of Jude or Kirk having a blinder. Middle of the road performances from 23 and 31 and a kiler game from 17 would give a better result than a mediocre performance from 17 and 23 and a blinder from 31.
Irish rebounding of the half back and hitting our forwards on the chest at half forward seems better than Kirk winning the ball at every stoppage and bombing it into the F50 with one of his up and under kicks. Then again if he can get the ball out to Irish as he flies by ... I think I just countered my own argument
