Team List 2024 Grand Final, vs Brisbane at MCG, Saturday 28 September, 2:30 PM

    How exciting!

Hopefully McDonald will be fully fit to play.

Hope we don’t take the risk of playing Mills and end up being a man down early.

Feel for Taylor Adams but can’t see him making the team unless there is a training injury.

We keep losing centre clearances (even against the banged up Port), but Grundy is against their replacement ruck giving us a chance for a more even result at the contest.

Also no Melbourne teams for biased commentary or crowd calling for free kicks so hopefully it will be a really good game and a victory for us!

    In: no change
    Out: no change

I think Adams needs to play the Lions have a strong midfield we do too but an extra will help. we dont need and extra back man (Fox) if mills ok.

For whatever it's worth, the early betting has us as favourites at $1.70 and Brisbane $2.16. The players under $10.00 for the Norm Smith are Heeney at $5.50, Neale $6.00, Warner $7.00 and Gulden $9.00.

I would think Raynor would be the one to win if it the lions prevail.

When does the Sydney version of On the Couch air ? Was a Brisbane love fest

How can those 3 muppets talk about matchups and not mention Gulden, Heeney and Warner

Simple answer. Jon Brown. The same people had PA beating us.

I've been pondering the Mills call in the context of the Reid mistake from two years ago. I actually understand why they rolled the dice on Reid. His form up to half time in the PF was a huge part of why we were in the GF at all. We had no one else on the list capable of what he was capable of, when fit.

In contrast, Mills hasn't been a significant contributor to our GF journey this year due to his injury. At his best he's a hugely valuable part of the team but we've not seen him close to his best this year. He's had a couple of good games, but also some poor ones (by his standard). We also have players capable of playing similar roles or contributing to similar levels.

So harsh though it is, especially as he's captain, I hope they take the hard stance and leave him out. He almost certainly won't be the difference maker in a win, but could be the difference maker in a loss if we have to sub him early or if he's just not able to play at the level required (if that makes sense)

I think there is news breaking today that could almost give me as much joy as us winning a flag: Luke Darcy has announced he will be stepping away from football commentary at the end of the season.

The sound you hear on the streets is a nationwide, collective mix of joy and weeping - knowing that the stone-cold idiocy he projected on a weekly basis will soon be banished from our world.

And our collective IQ just increased.

                      Good riddance.

Reid did his significant injury half time of the Prelim. Logan dropped after 5 goals in 8 weeks

Mills did his at training (no one knows how bad) what will be 18 days prior. The way he was ruled out of the Prelim quickly and celebrated after the prelim, id say he is good to go

                          Not really the same scenario.

Mills not needed to win as he hasn’t been in great form so I don’t care if he is there or not.
Mcdonald is needed if we are to win. He is integral to the structure and has been a constant through the year. If he is out we would be in trouble.
they have too many guns on all lines and our best are needed.
Heeney will be clamped by Josh Dunkley or Berry. And Papley by Starcevich. Reckon they will give Ashcroft a run with role with Gulden.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we put Papley in the centre square more often to shake the starcevich tag and Parker on Zorko. I reckon Jordon on Mccluggage will be more important. Rowbottom on Neale. Warner has been good in the third and fourth quarter, but reckon he really need to get us going in the first as there will be too much close watch on Heeney and Gulden. The other players who need to step up big time due to the tags on others are JMac, Jake Lloyd and Florent. Grundy absolutely pivotal. He will have to play as an extra midfielder and maybe clunk a couple of goals.

Liz, I'm with you. The games Mills has been in he hasn't been really noticeable. And, when he could have established his spot v the Giants he was ill. While Reid didn't cost us the 2022 game he certainly didn't help. I think the potential for the Swans to end up 1 win 4 losses or potentially entering a dynasty period (and being 2W:3L) will have the selection committee very conservative - and no Mills (or Tay).

Fox Footy last night was bizarre. The Couch was a Lions' lovefest with how could we possibly be able to quell the might of the Brisbane team and little on how the Lions have to stop the whole of our midfield. And virtually nothing on how they'll go with only a VFL ruck? How confident would we be if Ladhams had to step in for Grundy on Saturday? And we also got the superficiality of "the Lions need to shut down the corridor". How well did that work for Port? I really hope the Swans have been holding something back and get out to a comfortable lead and hold it (a la PF) rather than rely on 2024's Leo or Nick Mal. The strangest thing about Fox Footy was that The Couch was banal while Robbo asked some quite incisive questions and drew the coaches out on how they dealt with pre- and in-game decisions and got some answers that weren't platitudes.

I'd love to see some analysis here on RWO on potential match ups, strategies, etc as there was in the past.

I can't do it as I'm sweating on tickets that I may know about today. So I can't think. At all. If they come through I may have a couple of spare standing room tickets later this week. But do I drive down for the frustration of standing room viewing? I think not.
