Dean deserves his own thread. I thought this address to the players was impressive and convincing. He seems up for it and ready. https://youtu.be/VCK0UMDuV6E?si=dkrHk7dnbqRvM6rq

He's certainly articulate, and I like how he stressed the importance of clear communication and cooperating as a team that includes staff and the club as a whole.Dean deserves his own thread. Very impressed by his address to the players and his ladder of priorities : club first, team second and yourself last. Also, the importance of revisiting the GF in the cold light of day- learn from it and then move on. Now it’s over to our boys to see if they can do just that. I’m confident they will.
Re: the Chad. Of course the club will do whatever it can to re-sign him but it will be up to him if he wants to stay. This is as it should be and I get the feeling it won’t be long before we know.Comment

Dean Cox was interviewed by Gary Lyon & Tim Watson on SEN breakfast yesterday. Gives insight with the GF review & the pre-season. Came across as a straight shooter in his first Melbourne media interview as senior coach.
The Interview (11min) can be selected from the attached SEN podcast menu:
It was a busy ‘Scramble’ with Sammy and Kane this morning, and they tackled the latest footy news in ‘Friday First Thoughts’ before chatting to 2025 top draft prospect Willem Duursma. NBL champion Damon Lowery joined them in the studio to go through all the latest basketball news, and they also were joined by the newest member of SEN SA Breakfast’s team Chad Cornes.Comment

I loved this interview. How candid he was that our defensive DNA had fallen away. Whilst on paper, our defensive numbers look good, I reckon our full ground defence was poor at times and when it broke down (GF day not being the only one; think the Bulldogs game later in the season) it really broke down badly.
As for the GF review, I'm convinced it was one giant, collective head case more than anything tactical. But who knows.Comment

Up on the club's website is a Dean Cox article from another SEN interview (Sydney) he did with Matt White yesterday.
Not as insightful as the Melbourne SEN interview he did a day earlier to avoid going over the same ground, but singled out Co Warney & Angus Sheldrick as most likely to crack into the seniors after having impressive pre-seasons thus far.
Also wants to increase from the 31 players that played seniors last year. Probable sign of managing players more and further debutants.

Thanks for that. I think Cox is saying what most of us want to hear, in that, while we love seeing the brilliant attacking play, we don't want to suffer through our team being dominated around the contests, in the games that matter most. It'll be interesting to see in the earlier games, if the team is showing signs of developing a harder edge. It'll also be interesting to see if they can do that without losing attacking flair, and if so, can they sustain that into the latter part of the season. Along those lines, Cox did say that he wanted to use more than 31 players, so it seems that there'll be a bit more rotation, and probably a bit more of him explaining, that no, players X or Y weren't dropped, they were just being rested as part of a long-term strategy.Dean Cox was interviewed by Gary Lyon & Tim Watson on SEN breakfast yesterday. I also found it interesting, that he said it took 7 & 1/2 hours to review the grand final humiliation, with the first minute of the game taking an hour. It sounds like a lot of honest discussion took place. So hopefully, that will spur the team on to greater heights, rather than being a massive psychological burden, insisting that you're not really good enough when it matters most.Comment

Yes, I'm really hoping that Sheldrick has a big season, as I definitely think that he can improve our combativeness at the contests. It'd also be nice if Corey establishes himself in the team, as I thought he was a bit unlucky not to play more last year.Up on the club's website is a Dean Cox article from another SEN interview (Sydney) he did with Matt White yesterday.

Playing more than 31 players is hopefully code for "we arent gifting games like years gone by"Up on the club's website is a Dean Cox article from another SEN interview (Sydney) he did with Matt White yesterday.

Yes, Wilbur was one a while ago from memory, but he improved a lot over the last season. Was Ollie another? Otherwise I can’t think of any. The advantage of a new coach is that I’m sure he will give every player on our list a chance to show what he can do- we need to develop depth to cover for the inevitable injuries.Comment

Brilliant bit of coaching to have a through review of the GF. The early signs of Cox being a top line coach are looking good.
