SA well on top to lead 33-13 at quarter time. From a Swans point of view, the highlight of the quarter was King taking a pack mark and then putting through the set shot from 50. McNamara has had a fair bit of the ball in defence.

It's now a bit of a thrashing, with SA ahead 74-25. They're dominating clearances, and seem bigger and stronger across the ground. Doing a few chores around the house, now has more appeal than watching the second half.

There's a small paragraph on Kyle in this piece from the AFL site. It's about two thirds of the way down the article.

The Rookie Me notes for the above match. It turned out to be a 77 point win for SA, which makes it a bit hard to see the Allies turning the tables this Sunday. Although the Queensland contingent has a lot of class.

South Australia poured on 20 goals in a 77-point win over the NSW Academies to round out their trial games on an emphatic note.

For those in the know with a potential to have up to 3/4 academy players worth selecting wirh the new draft rules is possible we could mange getting all 3/4 players if we wanted

Yes. We'd probably have to pull in an extra draft pick around 20-30 to do it, but it is more than doable.

I think the other issue is let's say for the sake of the argument we finish in our current position - which would equal pick six. It'd likely get pushed back a few given both Brisbane and the Suns at least have academy-tied players likely to go top five, but if we were super confident we could get a pick before a bid on King, could we accumulate enough points to then get the academy players we wanted.

I'm not, at this stage, convinced by the idea of King being a top 10 pick. He has some attributes that suggest he could be a top notch AFL player, but others that suggest he could be a bust (inconsistent kicking in particular). I'd like to see how he looks in the U18 championships, particularly given the extra challenge the Allies players have of limited chance to develop familiarity and cohesion with team mates.

I tend to agree. Top 10 picks tend to have most sides of the game covered - an athletic and/or footballing trait that separates them from the pack, high game awareness and polished skills. He's certainly got one, seems to be developing number two (the production is there, if not always the in-the-moment instincts) and number three could go either way - it'll be a permanent kink in his game, or benefit mightily from the teachings in an AFL environment.

He could just as easily be a Max Holmes or a (dare I say it) Adam Goodes, as he could a Gary Rohan or a Jayden Stephenson.

Rookie Me are quite bullish about the prospects of the Allies, ahead of the championships kicking off at Blacktown today, with the match against SA. After watching SA demolish the combined NSW academies last week, I'm a bit less confident. But anyway, the match starts at midday and can be streamed via the AFL site.

The Allies are raging favourites to repeat history at this year's AFL Under 18 National Championships, boasting exceptional top-end talent.

I found it interesting, that unlike previous years, there's no underagers in the squad and only two overagers. Also interesting is that they think King is a lock to be taken top ten in the draft. They also seem to rate Kyle ahead of McNamara. While Kyle has done well to get into the squad, I personally rate McNamara as the better prospect.

Actually, that match is tomorrow. The above article has it wrongly scheduled as Saturday, June 1st. When June 1st is of course, Sunday.

NB: the game is tomorrow, not today. Just went to find the stream and was surprised there wasn’t a link on the main page. Found it eventually via the Match Centre. But not today.

SA in front 27-16 at quarter time. Max King managed to show why he might be taken very high and why he might not be, in the space of a minute. In a big pack near the goalpost, it was he that somehow managed to come down with the ball. He then dusted himself off, played on and missed the shot from about five metres. Carmichael getting a fair bit of the ball in defence.

The ruckman / forward from NT looks very handy.

                                Taj Murray? Yes.
