    Injuries

Currently, an exceedingly long list: Medical room: The full AFL injury list, R1 - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1276853.

Good to see Bowman and Snell are tests this weekend.

Sorry for the depressing thread title - i couldn't find an apt existing one.

I suppose that there's two main ways that you could view the current extensive injury list. Firstly, since the wheels are already falling off, then we're in for the season from hell. Or, things will gradually right themselves and after a slow start, we'll hit the finals with heaps of momentum.

I'm in the latter view, opposite to last year with a slow start due to injury list & adjusting to Cox's changes. Peaking towards back half of the season, winning contested ball with Gulden & Mills in full flight and a fresher Grundy.

Also good to see Will Edwards is a test to return. Need our KPD stocks replenished with the McCartin forward experiment happening.

Yes, I'm hoping for the Brisbane 2024 path. Perhaps with a little bit less early season losing?

This week will be a big test to see if we’ve recovered from the GF- a good showing at home against the Lions is vital. Hope the boys are up to it.
Despite all our injuries we do not want to be two down. We should get some lads back over the next few weeks so keeping fingers crossed for no further injuries. Btw, Adams seems very injury prone- missing more than available.

Yes, I'm starting to see Adams as a VFL captain. That is, when he's fit, he comes back through the VFL and attempts to force his way back into the AFL from there. And while he's there, he should be able to be a decent mentor for the younger players around him.

Melican will miss 2-3 weeks with abductor straight.

Long injury list, Logan the earliest to return after r3 bye (VFL most likely), with Francis & Indhi Kirk being available from concussion protocols.

Disappointing Riak will be out for a while after having shoulder surgery

Yes, a shame about Riak, as I was looking forward to seeing him run around in our first VFL game this weekend. Seems it could be a much of the season type injury, as well?

About the best thing that I could glean from that list, is that Will Edwards is no longer listed. So, perhaps he returned in last week's VFL practice match?

Will Edwards was a test to return last week, so I'm assuming he'd passed & played.

So I wasn’t sure where to put this and didn’t want to revive the grand final thread but . . .

I saw some clips from Heeney doing a podcast with Tom Mitchell. (Does literally everyone have a podcast these days?) Anyway, under the cover of the whole speculation around Mills and McDonald, what wasn’t revealed was following the Port game, Heeney literally couldn’t walk for three or four days, let alone train due to the stress fracture he was suffering. I’m not sure I’d seen that reported before.

Obviously, we knew that when he got tackled awkwardly halfway through the first quarter he was basically stuffed from then on. Hence, he was pulled just after half time when he couldn’t even get into a jog.

I had a feeling Heeney wasn’t fit and I’m afraid he may have had some mates by the look of how we played. That’s the most plausible explanation of our performance- very unfortunate especially if Errol was in a similar but not quite the same boat. Not using this as an excuse but let’s face it, you only need to be a percentage or two off your game and you are behind your opponent for most of the game. Anyway, it makes me feel a little better! But not by much………

                          Such horrendous luck.

Nothing is an excuse for that and I’m not wishing ill on Lachie Neale. But the luck element is real. Apparently Neale - who was in a moon boot leading up to both the prelim and GF - was fine but his foot completely to pieces, but only in the last centre bounce of the game.

As posted by Thunder Shaker in the R3 thread, Gulden is aiming to return after our midseason bye in June.

Here is our latest Injury update, with Logan the most likely to be available after this week's bye. I'd expect all the players on the injured list to return via the VFL, except for Melican & the suspended McInerney, due to them missing the pre-season practice matches. This includes captain Mills & Gulden after his long lay off . Too risky to play them without some match conditioning in the VFL imo.
