General footy chat Round 4: the other games.

I suspect a lot of people will be quietly going for Collingwood tonight, just for the fun of seeing Carlton slump to 0-4.

A couple of good games loom on the weekend. Suns v Crows is an appealing match up. Both teams have started really well, but many people are still yet to be convinced that they're genuine premiership threats. While the Dockers v Bulldogs is an interesting clash between two sides who probably think they're contenders, but might not be.

Crows v Suns is a good call. I suspect it'll help us find out which side is the real deal, and as well as being at home, my gut tells me it's the Suns. Though I reckon Adelaide recruited really well and will definitely play finals.

I'm kind of looking forward to Port v Saints in a weird way. If Port loses at home, oh boy . . .

Yes I quite enjoy the bitter and deranged nature of the Sack Hinkley thread on Bigfooty. Although, I've no real idea if that's a genuine reflection of how much Hinkley is hated by the Port fan base, or if it's just a feral minority making a lot of noise?

I'm one of those people, deja! Watching Carlton implode at 0 - 4 would be most satisfying!

Looks like Houston has given us another chance to assess how broken the tribunal is. Forceful elbow into the jaw of a opponent from behind, when the ball was only vaguely in the vicinity. However, there didn't seem to be any concussion, so maybe he gets treated leniently?

Houstan is in trouble for his elbow on Fogarty's jaw. We play Pies next week.

I suppose that Collingwood's inaccurate goal kicking has kept Carlton in it, but Carlton's inaccuracy everywhere else, means that they rarely look like scoring.

Carlton have led at half time in all of its 4 games this season. It's gone on to lose all 4 of them! It'll be fun watching the Blues tear themselves apart this week!!

Part of Carlton's problem is the Melb footy media collectively overrated their list and prospects.

I've always thought they were just an ok list, with some elite top end talent, but lacking real depth and kicking skills after that. But because the footy 'experts' had them destined for a hot start to the season, top four and even a real flag contender, the pile on will be even greater.

This is an observation that has not escaped the experts.

IF Sam Mitchell wants to poach players at vulnerable clubs ... THEN: mentions how Carlton have scored 84 points in second halves this year while conceding 194.

Voss's pointed message as Blues look for answers after 'unacceptable' fadeout: mentioned four consecutive half-time leads during four consecutive losses.

Carlton's poor second half performances are making me feel old: I was watching the game with Stella Jr and enjoying it through the first half, then through the third my interest waned and it was so boring by early in the fourth that I was dozing off and I'm pretty sure I got a passing "past your bedtime?" smirk from Stella Jr.

I see that Houston got two weeks for his hit on Fogarty. It would be an interesting experiment, to gather a hundred or so casual observers and show them footage of that incident and the incident that McInerney cost three weeks, and then ask to rate which they considered to more worthy of punishment. I suspect that a large majority would go for Houston's as the most severe.

The suspensions are too outcome based , dependiant whether the victim was concussed. If concussed , penalty is 0 or 3 weeks mimimum if challengied. ?No wriggle room. If not concussed, there is lesser penalty with wriggle room in challenge sentence. Optics or how some players are more easily concussed than others doesn’t come into it

. It's based on AFL protecting itself from futue litigation.

Suns v Crows was an excellent game. The Suns did very well to sneak the win, with a really even team performance. Although they may have had the better of the umpiring towards the end. Some of the rebound work by both sides was very classy; especially from the Crows. Thilthorpe is now officially a beast and looks like he's going to be almost impossible to stop on his day. While at the other end, Walter possibly had his best game for the Suns, and is looming as a future beast.

Both are going to be nightmares.
