General footy chat Round 6: the other games.

Should be an enjoyable start to the round, with Brisbane taking on Collingwood. I'm sure that I'll find myself going for Brisbane. Which is vaguely interesting. I mean, I'm harbouring little or no ill will against the team that thrashed us in the grand final, but I am harbouring a small amount against Collingwood. Largely for being a powerful part of the Victorian establishment. Possibly a bit more for their association with Eddie McGuire?

Good Friday seems more like crap Friday, with a couple of battles of the duds: North v Carlton, and West Coast v Essendon.

Adelaide v GWS could be a high quality encounter on Saturday. Though I'm not sure why Adelaide are favourites.

The round finishes on Monday with Hawthorn v Geelong. Would you like a dart in your left eyeball, or one in your right eyeball?

It hurts so much to admit it but Collingwood at their best are a very attractive team to watch. 7 goals up at 3/4T against Brisbane at the Gabba and making the Lions look very ordinary. With our injury list, maybe losing to them by 30 last week wasn't as bad as we thought?

I agree Sandridge. It has to be said (and I know this game is not over yet) but Collingwood's performance tonight against the reigning Premiers, who haven't been too bad this year is making our effort last week, with 8 of our best 23 out injured, look pretty good.

We will win more than we lose even with our current team.....and with our strongest team back on the park (if that ever happens), we will beat most teams.

I agree. Collingwood look like a very good team this year, notwithstanding their ordinary first game against GWS.

Right stevo! Our 3 losses have been against teams that are absolutely flying and although we were a little disappointed with our loss last week, Collingwood's performance last night showed just how good they are. And none of our losses have been wipeouts. Unfortunately, some of our stars are still out for a while but if we can pick up wins here and there until they return, we just might still be in the hunt at season's end.

Complete contrast to last year and challenging for Coxy as first year coach, whilst having to deal with an extensive injury list and trying to implement a new game plan. If we can turn at the bye 50/50 we're doing very well.

Coxy has done well with all the. Injuries we’ve got- hopefully the young players in the team now will develop to the next level. With so many of our key players out, we’ve done quite well considering. The Pies are a very well balanced team this year but I wonder if their older guys will be this good at the business end of the year- hope not!

This North Carlton game is a hard watch. When does Clarkson start to come under serious pressure at North - they are miles from it. Lots of decent players but their basic skills are generally deplorable. Carlton not a lot better.

From the bit I watched, they seemed to have the game plan of handballing to a player under more pressure.

Richmond did so well tonight, and seeing them upset the old cranky pants ex-coach was very enjoyable

What do people think of the Nash hit on Miers? After the game the Fox panel said minimum 3 weeks, but 3 weeks is about right. Whately said straight to the tribunal. 5 weeks for mine.

                          3 certainly isn't enough.

McInerney got 3 weeks for his innocous bump. In comparison, I can see Nash's hit falling into the 4-5 weeks range. Wouldn't sit well if he just got 3 weeks by standard the AFL have so far set for less serious incidents.
