I have also been thinking we should drop Rampe, but who plays on the 3rd tall? Would not want to lose Blakey's attacks.

It appears Coxy has seen the light on McCartin.

Tom McCartin will play in his traditional defensive role this week after coach Dean Cox admitted sending him forward against Port Adelaide didn't work

I would give Buller a chance- we need to find out if he’s going to be an AFL player now that Logan will be out for some time. Coxy has said that TMac will be back in defence, where he belongs, and it would be great if Francis can maintain what he showed against Port, The only other tall we have up front is McLean - Pistol Pete is handy as back up to Grundy but I guess the selectors will have to choose between him and Buller. Or can we have both in against the Suns? I don’t think Grundy can ruck all day and if McLean has to relieve him then we only have 1 tall up front. So I think bring in Buller and drop Hamling.

When he went back in the 2nd half we got our backline structure back.

Why would you drop Rampe? He was one of our best last game.

David King is pushing for us to play Heeney more as a forward again, in at least a 50/50 to 75/25 split role with playing in the midfield..

His case being our forward options is so badly hit with injuries and that Heeney is a great natural forward. He showed video footages of Heeney using his forward craft to out manoeuvre & out mark his opponents which makes him so dangerous in a similar mould to Dangerfield at Geelong.

He added this enables Heeney to play more in the forward half of the ground where we currently need him most, rather than as a pure midfielder where spends times in the back half. This enables players like Sheldrick to step up and play more midfield time.

With Tom McCartin down back permanently and Chad to 100% midfielder instead of 25% at half forward, will help us better get through till the re-enforcements return according to King.

Someone has suggested dropping Rampe, I think that is insane. He is playing well, not great but good enough. Our issue is midfield where the pressure is non existent and sometimes or most of the times it is the lack of ability to lock the ball in the forward half till the midfield and defence gets set in defensive position. We don’t do that and the ball comes straight out and it’s an easy goal the other end.
I reckon we need players who are good ground players in forward half to lock it in and also that prevent interceptions.
could we try Jake Lloyd or maybe even Rampe in the forward half as that defensive forward to bring the ball to ground or just a tagging role on their half back - Daniel Rioli? Not sure if Sam Flanders will head back as well this week? Coz he was also good in there last year but this year in forward half he is not doing so well. I think Rampe the great competitor he is - he will give his all in that defensive forward role.

Francis was excellent in the last quarter with 13 possessions and 3 goals. He must play the whole game in the forward line this week.

McCartin goes back to defence. The forward experiment isn't really working when he's the only target. If he was the 3rd or 4th tall in the forward line it would be different.

We should rethink the forward line with so many forwards out. Make the forward line a place to rest players who can kick goals. Heeney and Warner can rest forward when not contesting the centre bounces or playing in the midfield, with Cleary and a few others assisting. Anyone who can kick a goal in general play from 30 metres out should spend time in the forward line this week.

Squad has Ladhams, Paton and Sheldrick with no players out yet. I'm not sure who to select, but I think Ladhams needs to be recalled. Ladhams, Francis and McLean should make a good enough forward line.

Fully agree Thunder- Ladhams has to play. I think selection is so important but in fairness with so many of our first teamers out injured for such long stretches it makes it a very difficult task. Coxy tried an experiment and it didn’t work- he has admitted this without being stubborn so credit there.

We have problems in midfield with Errol and Callum not available and with Logan and Paps missing from our attack means Heens and Chad spend time up front when also needed in midfield. This means Wilbur and the other small/ medium forwards must step up to give our attack more bite. Wicks has done well down back and I hope he’s left there as I really didn’t like him at HF. I wouldn’t move Ramps, as one poster suggested as we need our backline as settled as possible and while he hasn’t been as dominant as in the past, he is still very good and reliable there.

Hoping JMac will be better for the run as his second half showed and really hoping Braeden improves!

David King is a knob. We’re running on fumes and he suggests moving our best midfielder to the forward line? One thing we can be sure of now is he’ll bang on about this for every show he’s on leading into the game, if he’s commentating he’ll mention it at least six times, and then he will spend every show he’s on for the week ahead saying it has to happen.

Of course Isaac will spend a little time forward. But to do what King is suggesting is just about giving himself a talking point. If the Swans - that are at 2 and 4 and travelling to play a side 4 and 1 - lose, David King gets to drone on and on that his move would have made all the difference. He’s a @@@@ head.

maybe what he is suggesting isn’t that different than what Longmire did till only 2023. I think using different midfield rotations may be useful to release Isaac and Chad to play more damaging and also lock the ball in forward half. And it may help the young ones get some consistent exposure in their traditional roles like Angus and Caiden and see what happens.

King is a spud, last year he was all about Heeney into the Mid now fwd.
Like saying Bont should play fwd with Darcy out

Execution is our issue, we had 27 shots on goal last week, opportunity isnt an issue.

If they Play Ladhams, Mclean won't be cooked everytime he goes fwd and has a shot

We need a crumbed or at least instruct the guys to be at the fall of the ball. Let Corey, Cleary play more fwd and freely, our younger guys are told to stay out which is why they are nowhere when the ball hits the deck

How do you know the younger guys are told to stay away from the fall of the ball ? Or is that how your interpret what your seeing ? I don’t think our younger players are restricted they just aren’t good enough to this point not held back by coaching, they need time and confidence. I do agree on the execution point that has a big bearing and agree the club needs to find away to slot him as he is definitely in a rich vein of form (will he stay a swan at the end of year in his last season)

I watched Corey Warner a few weeks back, I know he has been playing higher lately, and he had open space, slingshot room, in front of him a few times and he just held out of going deep into the 50 and being an option.

Clearly Paps has a license which is why he gets on a lead and takes a mark, but none of our smalls present on a lead. I remember Bice hitting a stationary Hannily with a bullet but rarely are our smalls and actual option in the 50.

They all need to watch Paps crumbing as well,no one does it better.
Maybe Lloyd could play small fwd ? Always seems to find room.
