General footy chat Round 8: the other games.

With our season going down the toilet, it's getting more of a chore to start this thread. I mean, with Essendon and North tonight, I want to put @@@@ on Essendon, but they're actually ahead of us on the table.

Oh well, I'm fairly keen to watch the Suns v Lions game on Sunday, as the Suns are my second favourite team.

    Thursday:
    * Essendon vs North Melbourne. Essendon start as favourites, but it would be entirely consistent with Essendon's inconsistency if North managed an upset win here.

    Friday:
    * St Kilda vs Fremantle. Saints started well but have lost their last three. Fremantle's form has been better. If Fremantle are to make the finals, this is a game they need to win.

    Saturday:
    * Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide. An evenly-matched game that will show where both teams are ranked this year.
    * Adelaide vs Carlton. Carlton have won their last three and Adelaide's form has been patchy in the last month. Carlton need to win this to continue their resurgence, but Adelaide will not be an easy opponent at home.
    * Collingwood vs Geelong. Geelong dropped a game against Carlton last week and have a lengthy injury list. Collingwood has been in very strong form. Collingwood should win this comfortably but do not discount Geelong's chances.
    * West Coast vs Melbourne. West Coast have a game at home against a team that has only two wins. However, these wins have been in the last two games. If West Coast are going to win more than one or two games this year, this game has to be one of them.

    Sunday:
    * Sydney versus GWS Giants. The Sydney derby will be a good game. Here's hoping the Swans can put together a consistent good effort across four quarters and manage a win.
    * Hawthorn vs Richmond. This match has potential to be a spanking by Hawthorn, but could also be an upset like Richmond managed against the Suns two weeks ago.
    * Brisbane vs Gold Coast. The so-called Q-clash will be played for the first time with both teams in the top 8 of the ladder. The fixture is leaving the best match of the round for last.

I'm not overly fond of Essendon at all but thoroughly dislike Norf and their supporters and will be hoping for a Bombers win tonight.

Eagles v Dees aside, Saturday's games look very interesting.

Hard to see us playing consistently enough to see us troubling GWS on Sunday but we live in hope. A full four quarter performance by us and we'd be right in it.

      GO BLOODS!

Hope Essendon play this badly next week. They're still in front but are imploding.

Essendon managed to win, but only by 3 points. Had the Roos kicked straight in the last few minutes they could have won.

Saints up by 20 points at half time. Both teams combined have scored 34 points in a half. Fremantle's score of 1.1 (7) in the first half is their third lowest half time score and their lowest since they score 3 points in the first half against Geelong in 2020.

Fremantle should sack Longmuir. He’s wasting a terrific list.

Freo are a disgrace - awful style of footy, a decent list too - but they are playing in a way that makes our form this season look wonderful.

After the drivel served up at Marvel Stadium Thursday and Friday night, tonight's Pies/Cats game at the MCG is an absolute treat.

I noticed we are now in 15th place. The last game of the year is against West Coast. I hope its not a battle for the wooden spoon.
