A win is a win. It wasn't pretty in parts, it wasn't efficient, but a decent amount of grunt in the effort, which was pleasing.
Pleased to see Mills have a good game - the amount of hate he seems to be getting from some of the Swans fan base for what has been a bad run of injuries is ridiculous. The bloke is still a classy footballer and an important leader at the club. Hope he can build off here and have a big second half of the season so to quieten some of the critics.
Nice to see Blakey looking a lot more at home too - freed up by the return of Millsy and Cunningham, which gave significant structure to the backline. They either need to drop Bice or let him play on his natural side. Can't hit a barn door at 20m at the moment, keeps poking at kicks - but I think a lot of that is because he is on the wrong side of the ground for how he kicks."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

It’s true but Bice also has a kink in his game at the moment. He often gets the ball in space and rather than run on, pauses, looks left and right, then stutters, then moves and tries his stab kicks. Which often end up grubbering. You’d like to see him go first. And it’s been there for a few weeks.
It’s very coachable and a function of confidence but in a few weeks there will - touch wood - be some spots up for grabs so I hope he sorts it out.Comment

Mills was solid today, so was Cunningham. I reckon having those two back freed up BOG Blakey a bit. Getting Fox back next week will also be handy.
Our reckon our forward line will be dangerous when we have Amartey, McDonald and Papley all back. And when Gulden is back, we actually might be pretty good.
This season is cooked, but there’s still some top tier talent in this side.Comment

Nice to have a win. Looked a bit grim before half time but the lads got their act together.
Hopefully after the bye we get more talent back and run out the season in a way that makes the fans proud. Happy for Coxy too after last weeks debacle.Comment

One good thing out of today was how we recovered from the first quarter thinking, when watching it, was easy to think,grrr, here we go again.
That collective brain fade when Prestia was allowed to play on and goal from the pocket was, dare I say it, rabble like. You could easily see a side getting very jittery after that. To recover and get back into it was a plus.Comment

On Bice- we have seen what he is capable of when he’s allowed to do his thing. His kicking earlier this year was laser-like, damaging, and he can run. To me his current issues look as if he’s trying to conform to a highly structured game plan rather than just play his natural game. Let the guy do his thing. Where are the jaw-dropping long kicks from Marvel a few months back? He can be MUCH more damaging than dinky 15m kicks in the backline. He hasn’t lost the ABILITY. Why do we recruit someone for their run and long kicking and then once we see that for a few weeks ask them to do something different? By the same thought process, we should use Gulden as a defensive halfback when he comes back- makes about as much sense.My opinion is objective truth in its purest formComment

We were shaky for a while but gradually fought our way back. This will give us a bit of confidence but let’s be honest- the Tigers didn’t threaten a lot after a 1st quarter. I thought everyone put in a decent shift and special mention to Grundy, Rowie and the Lizard. Still disappointed to see Lloyd playing like he has recently and his spot must surely come under scrutiny. Corey needs some time in the ressies but I’m still hopeful as he did a couple of nice things.Comment

After the bye week, we could have all these players available who weren't available this week: Amartey, Fox, Gulden, Papley. If they all play in round 15, four players will need to make way.
I'm satisfied that we got the win over one of the teams we hadn't beaten since the start of last season. Two more teams remain on that list: St Kilda (round 18) and Brisbane (round 22). I would add Port Adelaide (round 15) to that list because we haven't beaten them in the home and away season since 2016. We may not get all three results (Brisbane are hard to beat) but we must be a chance to get two.

Forward line is a mess but keeping Chad and Heeney in that line up really helps.
Corey Warner needs to be dropped. I would take Florent in his place. The other player who is really not doing a lot is Hayward. But he had a better game and our line up is so bad in the forward half that we need to persevere with him. But we need to go after an established small forward I think. Hayward ideally needs to play the Ollie Dempsey role but he just cannot find the space for some reason.
not sure Matt Roberts and Bice both work in the backline. With Cunningham back I would think we should shift Roberts on the wing or drop Bice to the VFL to work on his kicking. He is now doing the up and under kicks that are easy to pick up and his decision making is really poor now.
Cunningham what a champion. He really gave a spine to the defence structure and Mills too. We should persevere with Mills as the extra in defence. He should be the complementary to the Warner heeney forward half role where he predominantly plays the back half role and Blakey gets the ticket to rove anywhere and drifts forward as a result.Comment

That was a nuch needed win to say the least, after the previous 2 weeks performances. Hard to gauge merit of win, considering the Tigers drop off after qtr time, which could be due in part to our increased pressure around the ball. Nevertheless. there were some promising signs and hope the team were able to regain some level of confidence.
Cox intimated in his presser that Gulden & Papley could be available in the first week or two post bye, if all goes well with their build up. Gulden appears a week ahead of Paps. Wonder if they'll need to return via the VFL due to their lengthy lay offs. as,we've done with other senior players recently?
Selection will be interesting post bye with Armatey being also available from suspension. Valid posts made above with the potential changes. We may be in position of having form players fighting for spots and enabling dropping those who have tailed off.Comment

Six things we learned: Dropping Ginnivan was smart coaching
So after we beat Carlton a couple of weeks ago, we were too reliant on our stars. I suspect our stars that week were just Heeney and Warner. It may have been a fair observation for that game.
But apparently yesterday's (flawed) win indicates we are still too reliant on our stars, though that group has now been expanded to include Mills, Blakey and Rowbottom, with Papley and Errol acknowledged to be in the wings. Strange, given Grundy was one of the best couple on the ground, while Melican, Cunningham, McCartin, Wicks, McInerney and Jordon all had pretty solid (or more than solid games), while a few others were decent enough.
Is there any team in the competition that doesn't rely on its best dozen or so players to play well?
There are far more insightful things (including criticisms) that might have been said about yesterday's performance than "they rely on their stars".Comment

Do not post your queries on the main boards. Such posts WILL be removed, without further explanation.
Constant breaches of the rules will result in your access to RWO being reduced as the Moderator / Administrator group see fit. RWO uses the vBulletin Infraction System to deal with breaches of the RWO rules. All Infractions have an expiry date. Such an expiry date may be as short as 10 days or as long as 6 months. Multiple infractions, depending on the number of points a member accumulates, WILL result in temporary bans from the site and CAN result in a permanent ban. Please note that some Infractions have an expiry date of "Never" and WILL result in the RWO member being banned from the site immediately.
1) Signatures / Avatars
Keep signatures under 4 lines of standard sized fonts (if you must use large fonts, use just one line) as a courtesy to all users who read the forums.
Do not use signatures / avatars as an opportunity to make jibes at other forum members. This will be considered to be sniping (refer Rule 6 below). You may not refer to another RWO forum member, or quote anything they have written, without permission from that member. Using an anonymous tag does not make it acceptable. If quotes are not removed, we reserve the right to remove them, without notification. If in doubt as to whether something is acceptable or not, don't use it!
2) Spamming
Advertising for personal commercial purposes is NOT permitted. Placing links to sites that other users may find of interest / personal websites is acceptable within reason (ie constantly posting links will be frowned upon).
3) Deliberately avoiding the RWO swear filter
RWO is a site that is accessible by Swans supporters of all ages and walks of life. A swear filter is in place to mask offensive words and phrases. This swear filter contains offensive words and variant spellings of offensive words to stop you from deliberately avoiding the swear filter. Do not attempt to avoid the swear filter through alternate spelling of offensive words. Do not attempt to avoid the swear filter by devising systems to fool the swear filter in its recognition of offensive words.
4) Inappropriate Language / Excessive swearing
RWO is a site that is accessible by Swans supporters of all ages and walks of life. Moderators will let some minor cases through. Anything deemed to be of poor taste or of an offensive nature may be removed at moderator discretion. Consider all members when posting; what you think is funny, not all members will feel the same way.
5) Trolling / Baiting
Deliberately posting on threads in an attempt to stir / bait other RWO users will not be tolerated.
6) Flaming / Sniping / Abuse / Insulting other members
If you have to have a go at someone personally, take it off the boards. Everyone else doesn't need to see your hissy fits. Remember, "Play the ball, not the man". This includes spouses or partners. If you don''t like a post, don't flame, snipe, abuse or insult in response - it makes the job of moderation much harder. Report the post through the forum reporting mechanism (click on the Triangle with the exclamation mark) and let the Moderator / Administrator group deal with it.
7) Legal issuesa) The Moderator / Administrator group will keep a very close eye on threads discussing rumours or anything that could be potentially libellous. Moderators and Administrators are not interested in the chance of legal action regardless of how small - if deemed that there is ANY threat to RWO potentially, we will come down hard on it.
b) Due to potential issues of copyright infringement and the potential legal implications, posting of complete articles is NOT permitted. If necessary, post a link to the article. Where appropriate, you may quote sections of the article to aid in discussion.
c) Due to potential issues of copyright infringement and potential legal implications, posting of links to "live streaming (of AFL games)" and "AFL content" sites that are not AFL endorsed is NOT permitted. Posts with such links will be removed immediately and infraction points will be issued.
d) Freedom of speech does NOT = freedom to slander
8) Racial / Sexual Discrimination / Villification
It is not acceptable for members to engage in racial and/or sexual discrimination / villification. It is not acceptable for members to use terminology in describing race or gender in a derogatory manner. Discussing and disputing the views and opinions of other posters is acceptable. Personally vilifying or abusing others for having certain characteristics, or being a member of a certain group (or because you think they're a member of a certain group), is not. This rule shall apply to any post attacking race, skin colour, ethnic background, gender and sexuality.

9) Prohibited
Anything deemed to be of Adult content or porn related nature will be removed immediately. Selling or offering of drugs, drug references, other than those openly discussed and identified in the press, will also be removed immediately. Breaches of this rule carry the highest infraction points and may result in permanent bans on a first offence.
10) Off-topic Posts
Some members prefer to just read Swans or footy related posts. This is, after all, a SSFC website. Ensure you post threads in the appropriate forum, or they will be moved. While threads will sometimes move away from the original topic, do not deliberately drag a thread away from its original subject.
11) Attachments
Attachments within the size limit prescribed are permitted. However, due to costs associated with uploads/downloads, if you wish to attach a number of files within a thread, or feel that the quality of the attachment is compromised by the file size restrictions, you may wish to use external hosting providers and link to the files there.
12) Moderator / Administrator Group
The Moderator / Administrator group reserve the right to delete or move threads / posts as well as remove signatures / avatars as necessary according to the rules of the RWO forum.
13) Final decisions
Any decisions made around the intepretation of the rules above are entirely at the discretion of the site administrators. Such decisions are final.
14) Vistitors from other sites
You are most welcome to join in discussions on RWO, but remember, you are a GUEST on our site. Abide by the RWO Forum Rules or we WILL ban you.
