Spot on Wolfie. It would take a miracle to make finals now so we should plan for next year by blooding s few young guys like Dettoli and Snell. As long as we play well for the rest of the year, I’ll be happy. Amartey and Paps are unfortunately injury prone and it looks like Joel’s body may not be up to the rigours of AFL footy. The reality is that some players are hardly ever injured while others are in and out of rehab all season.

I think even when he doesn't kick well he has big impact. It is because of him being there that others get into the play as well. He is the lynch pin in the forward half. The one everything is built upon. Every time he is in there we look much better.Leave a comment:

It's sad. Joel is very important to our structure. We can't make a run at the Eight with him out. Impossible. But I think with Tommy out it is time for Jesse to come in. He has been playing well in the reserves. Very dangerous but with not much delivery.
Uggggh. I checked the Swans site based on your post and learn Joel is out for 8-12 weeks. Tom for 2-3 weeks. Update: Joel Amartey and Tom Papley

In light of this, sadly I agree with your post. Joel hasn't played that much this year, but each time he has he's shown that he's developed into a good AFL forward and that he's a very important member of the team. More games for Jack Buller.Leave a comment:

Same here, in that i felt more disappointed with Armatey's injury over Papley.'s Both are big losses, but with Armatey out for the rest of the season seriously undermines our forward structure. He makes a difference when he's playing. Hopefully Papley will be back in 3 weeks.
Chance to give Buller a run and possibly become bit more inventive with our forward structure?
Important we finish the season strongly regardless if we make the eight, to give team impetus to rebound in 2026.

our prospects have died on the back of Joel Amartey being injured. All the media is talking about Tommy but the reality is without Amartey we don't have a hope in hell of getting close to the top eight.Leave a comment:

One thing Buller did on the weekend was work to the front of contests. McLean started doing it to. Buller has his limits but his work to get there favoured us in a batch of contests. Good on him.Leave a comment:

We’re not making finals.
We’ve had the season from hell. A horrendous injury run, suspensions, at least one coach short due to Horse’s late decision, a grand final hangover, loss four or five games by less than two goals, on and on it goes. Which is why I’m fairly phlegmatic about it and optimistic about next year.👍 1Leave a comment:

I think the news that we're now without Amartey puts an end to any faint chance we might have had. He's far from the perfect forward but he's an important element, structure wise.👍 2Leave a comment:

Reckon we'll finish with 11 or 12 wins. We need to trade at the end of the season. Sadly Amartey looks like another Reid. Unavailable too often.Leave a comment:

I have us dropping one game (against Geelong) and finishing 9th, with Freo 8th and the Suns 10th. I'm sure there's some variations where the Suns and Freo bomb out and we can still drop one game (maybe two).
Games against Geelong and Brisbane will be hard to win, and the GWS game is a 50/50 but we'd go into the other 4 as favourites.Leave a comment:

We can dream Matt, but I’ll be happy if we continue to play well and give of our best. This year we’ve been badly hit with injuries and can’t field our best team on a consistent basis and the reality is that we don’t have the depth required in these circumstances. If young Riak and Snell can be introduced for a few games ahead of next season our defence may then be ok and then we’ll only need a top key forward.

2025 season prospects
I did the ladder predictor after the win today. Remaining games: St Kilda, North, GWS, Essendon, Brisbane, Geelong, West Coast.
I gave us a 7-0 record, and we finished 8th ahead of Gold Coast.
It's a narrow path!Tags: None
