Why would umpires give a free to Watson, when he's an even worse stager than Ginnivan?

Seems like Adelaide are now premiership favourites. Which is probably fair enough on form, but my major quibble, is that they haven't played finals since losing the grand final to Richmond in 2017.Comment

They started the year hoping they make and win a final. As their form progressed it then went to finishing top 4 and now winning flag, after finishing 15th last year. Is too much to expect?
Outcry will resurface if they happen to finish on top, win both home finals and then play Collingwood in the GF on their home deck.Comment

Adelaide hasn't been in the finals for seven years. If there's one team that doesn't need finals experience before winning a premiership, it's Adelaide."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

That Hawks v Crows game was (at last) a really terrific
contest with both teams giving
it everything. I liked the composure of both coaches.
The only annoying thing were the protected zone
frees . Is the kicker ever hampered by someone
tearing past to chase their man or to get to
the next contest?

Protected area is a tricky one - I get that the kicker needs some space, but the zone seems a little subjective sometimes. Last I read, defenders can follow an opponent if they're within 2 metres of them, but I think attackers are still gaming that by putting on a burst of speed to get just more than that distance away.Comment

They're peaking at right time of the year, with little injuries. All going well for them and their supporters will be wishing it continues.

Plus, we can possibly claim a Swans connection, with Matthew Nicks. Not sure if I really want to claim that connection with Dawson?Comment

I'm very happy for Nicksy. Really liked him as a Swan and he would've taken lots of flak from the Adelaide fish bowl when the Crows weren't doing so well. Hope he's enjoying being the toast of the town at the moment.

There's a couple of other things that make it even more infuriating. Firstly, a lot of those type of infringements go unpunished, until an umpire decides to pluck one. Then there's fact, that other examples of genuine time wasting now seem to be fine. Kicking the ball away or running twenty metres or so, after the umpire has blown their whistle, never seems to be paid as a 50 these days. And along those lines, the one that I find most infuriating, is players being allowed to wrestle their opponent for an extended period of time, when that opponent is trying to move the ball on.Comment

Yes, he's copped a lot, for what Hotpotato mentioned. That is, he almost always seems composed in the box (well, that's if ranting fans on Bigfooty is some sort of reliable sample). A lot of people seem to think that composure is a sign of gormless passivity and that he calmly accepts defeat. But of course, throwing things around the box or screaming down the phone, might be a sign that you're not really thinking through the options that could turn the game around.Comment

Not playing finals for a few years doesn't mean anything for a team's chances of winning the premiership, especially Adelaide. Adelaide did not make the finals for three years before they won their two premierships in 1997 and 1998. Since 1998, they've made the finals 12 times but won no more premierships.

West Coast have now officially wrapped up number one pick. Personally, I didn't expect them to be quite so crap this year. They've had a few key injuries, but other teams have had much greater problems.
And on injuries, Hawthorn gun Will Day, has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a stress fracture. It's looking increasingly like they'll be the ones to slip out of the eight.Comment
