Team List Team Selection: Round 22 v Brisbane

Assuming both Hayward and Maclean pass their tests to return from calf strain & concussion respectively, means at least 2 changes:

    Maclean to replace Ladhams
Hayward to replace either Cleary, Dattoli or Florent.

As much as i would like to give all 3 another go, i'm leaning towards Cleary but have suspicion it may be Florent.

    For mine:
    IN: Maclean, Hayward
    OUT: Ladhams, Cleary.

If we played like last week we'll get smashed, but we're due to put in a good one against a top team and give ourselves a chance against Brisbane this Saturday.

Agreed if they both pass, but I’d drop Lloydy and keep Cleary in- looking to the future! We have to plan now for 2026 and beyond so I’m afraid there’s no room for Lloyd. Ollie is bound to regain form sooner rather tha n later and Cleary is young and inexperienced and has potential.

Our chances have improved a little bit, with both Neale and Lester being ruled out for Brisbane. They now have nine players on their injury list. Which is possibly the longest it's been for six or seven seasons. They really have had a remarkable run.

This might be very unpopular but there are two players who have not played that well of late.

        Rowie;

He has been struggling. Last week Cox sent him forward and he didn't do much better so he put him back into the mids. Again he didn't play well there either. He is averaging 13 disposals in the last 10 matches. This is not good enough for a mid. He needs to get 20 or more. He also panics when kicking out of defence. some of his clearances from Centre bounce are really kick and hope too. Time for him to have a stint in the reserves.

        Jordan

He continues to get low disposal figures and has been beaten a few times in his lockdown role. Last week he didn't play as a tagger and was really terrible. Yet again only 12 disposals. Cox will not drop him but at this time he is not useful enough to be in the team. In two of his last tagger roles he has been outplayed by several opponents. He used to get plenty of the ball but that has died up and so have his forays to goal. I think he deserves a stint in the reserves. But Cox won't do that with McLuggage to take down. At the moment I don't think Jordan is capable of taking him down. Mcluggage will still get 30 @ 89% and murder us. I would prefer if we ran a fast player through the mids and took McLuggage out of the play by winning the ball and getting it off quickly.

        Who would come in?

Fox and Adams. Robby is a good choice to replace Jordan. Adams might be a bit better than Rowie. It all depends on what the coach wants out of this match.

Jordan should go to Zorko and should be tagging a running defender, so he can hit the scoreboard.

Agree we should go head to head in the middle, not sure how many more All Australians we need in the midfield to go head to head

Im not sure we'd we are doing with Rowy after last week mostly fwd.

Adams could maybe get a swansong and Fox when healthy is best 22 every day of the week.

With our season now dead and firmly locked into 10th on the ladder, surely we should be using these last three games to prepare for 2026.

Dattoli must stay in for the three games and I'd like to see Cleary with his sharp hands and vision given good time as an inside mid. Buller is worth persisting with too.

No point bringing back old timers now, results and margins are almost meaningless.

TEAM: McLean returns for Lions clash

Just watched the video celebrating Tommy Mac's 150th game (a link to which is embedded in the team announcement page linked above). My initial reaction was surprise at how quickly the 150 game milestone has come around, even though it's not been especially quick given his various interruptions. But then I got pretty wistful watching the video and, in particular, thinking "what if" re Paddy and the short length of his duration with us.

So Buller to go it alone in the fwd line while Mclean and Grundy Ruck, good luck to Buller.

Some coaches can't help themselves, the quicker we put some brains around this guy the better

They aren't both going to ruck at the same time...

He’s a ripper. I still think he’s arguably the most important person on the list given the lack of alternatives and have felt that way for four years. He has the odd moment but he kills it most weeks. Arguably deserves to be top five in the B&F this year.

But yes, we desperately miss Paddy.

You talk about brains but you've got 2 rucks on the ball at the same time!
