General footy chat Round 23: The other games

I'm pre-empting Deja here - I'm sure he'll pop in with his customary run down of the round ahead.

I just wanted to lodge my annoyance at the pap served up in primetime tonight (Saints vs Bombers) while one of the two most consequential games of the round - maybe the season - where Brisbane travel west to battle out for a top 8 spot against Freo is on tomorrow night, while I'll be braving the rain (maybe - the forecast for tomorrow isn't too bad) and heading up to North Sydney Oval.

I've actually now realised that tonight's Essington Saints game is actually tomorrow? Is that just to allow the thrilling Carlton Collingwood season opener in the AFLW some clear air? Or was there no men's game they could logically schedule tonight?

I suspect it might be to give the AFLW a clear go. But if the stories going around the other day are correct, then Channel 7 have jacked up about the constant diet of dud Essendon games in prime time slots, and instead of covering next Thursday's game between Essendon and Carlton, they're now doing the much more appealing Sunday night game between Brisbane and Hawthorn. Can't say I blame them, but the pay TV folk might be feeling a bit aggrieved.

Channel 7 hasn't a lot of choice regarding late-season Friday night Essendon games after the AFL stuffed up the Opening Round fixture. I hope the AFL realises the folly of scheduling early season matches in Queensland during cyclone season without a backup plan. Ditch the Opening Round, make round 1 a split round, job done.

I don't blame Essendon for this debacle, not one bit - they have had a horrendous run with injuries. Having said that though, tonight's Essendon-Saints match was a decent game, evenly matched.

I'm quite looking forward to the final before the finals clash, between the Suns and the Giants. Plenty of quality in each team. Hopefully the Suns midfield of Rowell, Anderson, Miller, Witts, etc, will get on top and the Suns will book their first finals berth.

Well, that was disappointing. Suns looked like they were nervous at the start and they kept on butchering forward 50 entries. The Giants used the ball much more efficiently and hardly missed a set shot. Green and Callaghan were on top in the middle.

Yes, disappointing game! Back to earth with a thud for the Suns.

Hoping for a cracker of a game tonight between the Crows and Pies!

                  Adelaides back 6 were phenomenal.
                  impressive slog by both teams.

I didn't see last night's game, but the last time that I saw Adelaide, I was very impressed with their tall defenders. Especially with Keane, who seems to have improved a lot, since the night that Amartey kicked nine.

North Melbourne are on track for their fifth win of the season. Sheezel on track to record over 50 disposals in a game.
