I must admit I am getting some pleasure seeing Brisbane turning a close game into a belting despite the free kick count. There's a bit of redemption for the Swans here.
And we beat Brisbane last time we met. That's not bad."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi final👍 1Comment

Goal for goal is good, but not if you're 10 goals behind late in the last quarter. It's all over now except for the siren, presentation and victory lap."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Not sure about Will Ashcroft winning the norm smith again. Was a very even team performance and giving it to him feels a bit performative by the AFL.
also with Draper and Allen coming to Brisbane next year someone needs to look into their salary cap!!Comment

That was one of the great GF victories, achieved in adversity and showing so much character.
Regarding the salary cap issues, I think Brisbane are about to lose several solid contributors in Ah Chee, Starcevich and likely the retirements of McCarthy and possibly Zorko. Wouldn’t surprise if Hipwood was let go, either.Comment

Jeremy Cameron had his normal non appearance in a GF (Even before he got injured)Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

I see Chris Scott congratulating Lions, but had to throw in a “dozen things that have gone wrong” for the cats this year. Wouldn’t elaborate of course. Can’t he just say they weren’t good enough and leave it at that.
my son lives in Geelong and said halfway through the last quarter he could hear bulldozers clearing more land out Torquay way!!Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Do I feel better about last year's GF after seeing the Lions destroy the favourite this year? I confess, I do enjoy watching them when they're not destroying the Swans. Their rapid ball movement is quite something when it gets going. They also seem to embrace the chaos ball inside 50, which seems to rattle the Cats. My impression is that the Cats like things to be on their terms and when they aren't, due to sustained pressure, they're as vulnerable as anyone else. Fagan also seems to be an excellent coach, easily on par with if not more accomplished than Scott.
There's a hardness, a ruthlessness, in mentality as much as physicality that successful finals teams have. And it pains me to say it, because I hesitate to criticise anyone who makes it to AFL level - a huge accomplishment in itself - but I haven't seen that hardness in the Swans during their last two grand final outings. To play so well all season, then to be bullied into the ground twice - well, I hope that it was down to youth and inexperience (not that this seems to phase the Lions), rather than anything deeper and cultural.
Fagan talked about "failing our way to the top" - a great quote! Selwood's last words in the huddle before the 2022 GF were, apparently, along the lines of "now let's f-----g smash 'em". I'd like to hear similar stories from our next GF outing.Last edited by neilfws; 28 September 2025, 10:31 AM.Comment

It is scary to see how good Brisbane lions are. They have an enormous number of A grade PLAYERS. For any team to be able to beat them, it would take an enormous effort or their team to come down a notch which may happen. Brisbane has accumulated a lot of a great talent through the draft and And some through trade. on the other and we have Accumulated most of our talent draft. I think we now need to change the tag and accumulate some specific needs just like Grundy otherwise we would never be able to win the grand final.Comment

Warner is the only young player we backed in and let him make mistakes, turned out alright.
If you dont get games into them early, they only ever become role players.
Brissy just played 3 GFs in a row while blooding a heap of kids, is doable but takes guts.
Cats the same, alot of Veterans on the sidelines making way for youth.
You could argue, picking up Draper and Allen when you have 2 fwds that are 19 and 20 plus Hipwood and Fort and Oscar Mac that they arent actually signing in list needs.Comment
